Can i put wider tires on 18" wheels then recommended?

I am planning on getting Kumho 712's 235/40/18...but was wondering if i can put a wider size on them...like 245/40/18...will that cause problems, rubbing??

what's the better size to go with for 18's??

thanks

You know, mentioning the WIDTH of the wheel might help.

245 on that 18x7.5, I dont think that will fit and if it does fit it wont look right, why? the tire will sandwich up giving you more sidewall it just wont look right and I dont think that will fit. Go to any tire website and it will break down the specs and what wheel size the tire will require.

245 on 7.5" might be pushing it a little far but they will definately fit..

usually it's like this:

6.5" = 205-215 but u can go to 225
7.0" = 215-225, 235 is pushing it a lot
7.5" = 225-235 and i am guessing 245 might fit but hardly..
8.0" = 235-245

the wider you go, especially on big diameter/low profile rim.. the harder it will be to fit the tire on because those low profile tires are really really stiff. I had 225s on a 7.0" rim and they buldged like crazy although they drove fine.

Seriously, 235 is more then enough for amazing handling.. the difference between 245 and 235 in this case will be unnoticeable at all.

255/35 in the rear, and 245/40 in the front you should be fine!
