i finally found a way to get some 194/168 bulbs in the gauges for 98-99 maximas. It took some cutting and some shaving of the LED's but it worked and it looks great. Once you cut the LED's they fit right into the stock sockets for the lights.

I use to have blue LED behind the gauges, but after a week the LED burned out. I liked the VW jetta look. I still haven't been able to figure out why they burned out?

Please make a write-up / how to do for this! I know not all of us 98-99 owners want to have to resort to indiglo's...

BTW, in case anyone doesn't know.... the gauge clusters in 98-99 maximas are different from 95-97 maxes.. We have a freak size bulb back there that no one makes, so we can't just swap bulbs like everyone else..

What brand of blue lights did you use? Most of the ones I've seen are not that blue. I like.

ive done this to my 97 SE, and it looks great, except one of my blue bulbs has already faded to purple, but it still looks cool....i have another write up, which doesnt make you go into the fuse box or remove the steering column

Is it bright at night??? looking at the pics, they look very dark...

yes, u shud get the red needle kit, that will look hot, or u can get the blue needle kit, but u will have to paint/replace your needles to do that.

Also, is that a 95-96 grille on your 97 year max in your sig???? did it fit with no problems? looks very nice..

Instructions are easy, just take out your gauges and take out the four sockets and bulbs(black) that illuminate the gauges, also take out the one for the digi odo(blue). Now the LED's that I used are from autodynamoc.com and they come in a plastic housing that can be sanded down to decreases the diameter of the LED so that it could fit in the holes.

If look at the picture the round tab is gone and the piece that you slide in has been cut to fit in the socket for the old bulbs

This is the LED as it sits in the socket. I did a trial and error strategy till i got the size small enough to fit the holes. And that’s all. Just put every thing back together.

The only problem is the they are not really bright so the needle do not illuminate very bright and its hard to see them at night, but that’s what a needle kit is for. Also the redline doesn’t show up.

Let me know if this makes any sence.

ok i think some of us need step by step instructions, and also as one said before, are they bright enough like the real VW's? or are they gonna look like cheap imitations?? thanks

they are not very bright like the VW, but it looks really good, however the nededles barely show so its a bit tought too see, thats why i want to get a needle kit, rig some more LED's to light the needles up better.

As for instructions, it just like i said before, take the gauge cluster out, modify the LED's and plug them into the stock sockets. If you have specific question let me know and ill try and answer them.

Check out maxima driver for instruction on how to take out the gauge cluster.

Most likely not a '95-96 grille. I think he just blacked out his '97 grille. I agree, a nice look. I had a hard time deciding on whether to go with a really blacked out look or full chrome. Greg's grille just looked so great, I decided chrome was the way to go. Fortunately, it bolts in so I can easily change my mind later.

here are some very bright blue ones (5mm) but i don't know if that is the right size...

Any idea why they blew out? Sounds like too much current. What voltage does the socket provide, and what voltage were your LEDs? Most red/green/yellow/amber/white LEDs are 1.5~2.5v, blue LEDs are usually 3.5v~4.5v. Feed 'em 5v and they'll die or blow up.

If we use blue background bulbs... Could we still have reverse Indiglos or does that defeat the purpose??

i just bought the 2200mCd blue leds on that page. Can't wait to try them when i get them. They should be extremely bright!

but they are not the same leds as used by geo1317
his leds are bigger. I have a pic of those since i bought them a while back. hmm i'll try and post a pic.

what sucks is that i had them shipped to my nephew in the states. He's coming down on june 6th! boo!

they are the brightest blues i've had the chance to get my hands on. I hope they are really bright!
