yes you can do it yourself, you just need some deep sockets, normal metric socket/spring compressors/jack and jackstands.

As for tools, SLC I30t said it but another thing you may look into is some good shocks like kyb or koni

As far as the springs go themselves, no one mentioned yet...

Eibachs are just springs alone. Technically you "can" run them on your stock struts / shocks but it is very reccomended you upgrade those as well, to struts/shocks made to handle rougher, lower springs.. something like KYB AGX adjustables, Tokico or Koni's...With stock struts your ride will be probably rogher and you'll blow them eventually. There is also other stuff that is reccomended to change with the springs and struts, since everything is already apart, i am not sure what it is exactly but it won't cost more then 80$ or so I'm guessing... but then again, it isn't a Must.

hope this helps.

you can always get new dust boots also and you might want to cut your bumpstops in half or so so you have more suspension travel before bottoming out the strut.

I PUT KYB-AGX ON MY I30 when I lowered it. The ride is pretty decent unless you hit a good pothole then you know you have stiffer suspension.

The one thing you should do before attempting this mod is be sure to get some spiral eletrical wrap from radio shack. When you car is lower, the coils tend to colide and vibrate against each other makeing obscure noises from some/all of your wheels. When you put the wrap on the lower ends and upper ends of the coils it gives the metal something to rub on instead of metal. Thus giving you a quieter maxima ride. As far as replacing items while doing this, you might want to read the FAQ sticky on lowering the 4th gen. MAXGURL *i believe* give a list of possibilities of small parts to check for wear and replace if neccessary.

Also make sure you have at least a 24" breaker bar in the same size drive as the sockets for the lower mounting bolts. Otherwise you are gonna have an agonizing afternoon.

aaaaaaah DO NOT CUT your stock coils!!!! the stock spring rate is different then aftermarket lowering springs, if your getting a good deal on the Eibachs then get them if not just pay $178 and get some Sprints from www.impactparts.com , if your looking for good looks sprints is the way to go. I had Eibachs but was not satisfied with the amount of gap it still left on the fenderwell. You can change your own springs is not hard at all is just time consuming and patience thats it.

Have you ever rode in a car with the stock coils cut? If you havent dont encourage the next member to do it becuase the car sure rides like a brick. Sprints are the lowest drop spring you can get you may need to cut one or two coils in the rear and it will sit low, lower then the BGs you currently have on your car!

its all about leverage/.. you need a longer braker bar.. I started off with an 18-no go. 24-a little easier. 36-like butter baby

It really isn't hard, and the bolts dont get hot and cold like they do on the exhaust so they don't rust and seize. I was just saying not to use a small ratchet on the big bolts
