4. Plane Racing CAI

Can someone give me a breakdown of how much this is going to cost so i know how much i can dip into mom's bank account. Is PR CAI the best one out there? Need some help on this one.

heh

I'm getting the stillen intake, cattman ss ypipe, and a Catalytic Converter. How much would it take to professionally install this, and is the b-pipe worth adding to this setup? (is it loud too?)

Re: heh

If I were you, I'd get either the Y pipe or B pipe instead of the Catalytic converter...you will see better gains, plus less problems with emissions (with the B pipe at least). n/m

Re: Re: heh

Emissions isnt a huge problem where I live in NJ. at least where I got my car inspected Anywho.. will Y-Pipe, B-Pipe, and Cat Converter make a huge increase in noise at normal driving (2000-2500 RPM's)??

Merry Christmas

- I've been looking at the same stuff for the past week. here's a rundown...
- Stillen is ripping you off on the Front and Rear Strut Tower Braces. They're apparently not any better than ones from Courtesy Nissan or Cattman Performance. Stillen wants over $200 per bar. Courtesy and Cattman want around $85-$90. I'm personally forgoing the "expensive" Stillen graphics and getting the Cattman's.
- Place Racing Cold Air Intakes (PR CAI) are the best. They mount high enough so that driving through water isn't too much of a concern and they're far superior to the Jim Wolf POP unit. Expect real world gains of around 12-13hp. Cattman has them for $215. (cattmanperformance.com)
- The Y-Pipe from Cattman works better than the Stillen, from what I hear. The ceramic one is better than the steel model. Again, Cattman has them for $335.
- Don't forget a Rear Sway Bar. Cattman sells the Addco unit, which is very nice. It comes with top-of-the-line polyurethane mounts. Cattman has 'em for $160. Stillen has one, but I don't know the price.
- Basically, Stillen is ripping you off on many items. They do, however, have a reasonably priced steel brake line kit for $140 that you might want to look in to.
- Suspension wise, the Eibach Springs are brutually harsh. Tokico shocks are not durable (one guy said that they broke the day he installed them - others said 3-6 months) forget them. H&R Sport Springs are great and I found them once for around $200 at CarParts.com. Most other places have them for $300, which is still reasonable. The Koni's are some of the best shocks you can buy, BUT the rear shocks can only be adjusted when they're outside the car. So forget tuning the handling very often. Price on the Koni's will be around $740 for all four (front and rear are different models - search them on Koni.com). Cattman offers coilovers that are adjustable without removing them, but the KYB brand shocks that they come with may be harsh. They do, however, come with adjustable front camber plates, which puts the $1500 price in line. *Please note that any work on your suspension should be done by a certified mechanic as the stock housings will have to be gutted in order to fit the aftermarket components in.
- The major websites I used are: HRSprings.com, Stillen.com, Cattmanperformance.com, Koni.com, Carparts.com, and Courtesy Nissan's site, which is in the "links" section of this site.
- There you go. That's a week's worth of research. Order soon if you want them in by December 25th. Merry Christmas. ;-)

Re: Thanks Sleeper

- I'm glad you enjoyed the list. The difference between the ceramic and the stainless steel construction is that the ceramic material will actually retain the exhaust heat within the pipe, keeping it out of the engine bay. Any heat that gets into the engine bay makes the air less dense, heats up other parts, and just generally slows stuff down. It's just like like getting sleepy on a hot day, your engine feels the same way (after it reaches its proper operating temperature range, of course). People, mainly Ricers, flock to the stainless steel because it "looks cooler." Some people just like shiny objects, I guess.
- Anyhow, the ceramic may not look as cool, but it works better. Merry Christmas.

Also, on the Stainless...

- One last thing... The stainless steel design seems to have a throatier sound INSIDE the car. Outside, you won't hear much difference, but inside it will sound louder and have more gusto. Again, Ricers love this because they can hear both the exhaust AND their annoyingly loud systems at the same time. ;-)

I think GotRice sells the Stillen FSTB for under $200. You can get a FSTB from other places for about $50 and it's the same as the courtesy bar.
The Y-pipe from Cattman, I don't think he sells the Jet-Hot version anymore. He now only sells the stainless, unless he has some of the Jet-Hot's left...and the stainless go for about $450, so the stillen might be a better deal.
The RSB is about $225 but it is fully adjustable, whereas the addco is not (but then again you can get it for about $100 less)

Stillen RSB ---

I looked at both the addco and stillen RSB's
and decided the Stillen was much better. It has
no bushings (either poly or rubber). The clamp
is two pieces of aluminum machined to fit the
Maxima frame exactly. I believe you will find it
has superior performance because of this type of
connection. IMHO, it is worth the extra dollars
(of course I have a lot of Stillen stuff on my car!).

No firm data, but it seems to make sense to me...

My Christmas(wish)list: (which I may have to wait a bit after Christmas, maybe early Spring)

PR CAI
Don's VB mod
UPRD ECU
Stillen body kit
Koni struts

These are actually gifts for myself, I probably have to pay for them myself. Thus, I may have to wait longer than some of you. As long as I get it, right?

How do you adjust RSB?

- Thanks for the clarification on the Stillen vs. Addco RSB. But how is the Stillen adjustable? To what degree can it be adjusted?
- FYI, I think Cattman still has the Jet-Hot's in stock. It was on their site and it looked recent.

Uhh...

Koni's are NOT $700+

They're more like $440.

Eibach's are good performance springs, and the Sprints will be even better once they're produced. Don't get H&R's if you're into corner carving.

$440 Koni's - yeah, right...

- I looked at a ton of sites and the Sport yellow Koni's I found were no cheaper than $740. Where, besides a five-finger-discount, can you find Koni's for that cheap? $440 is like the cost of some cruddy Tokico's.

Re: $440 Koni's - yeah, right...

Uhhh...sorry to bust your bubble, but Konis are around $440. BTW, Tokicos AREN'T "cruddy"...do you have either? You shouldn't go dissing it if you don't even have them, cause the truth is, stock shocks are what's "cruddy"...LOL.
