My buddy just bought a 95se 5spd and all he has on it is a regular intake. I have a CAI and a y-pipe and 5spd and last night we matched up at a light and we were dead even the whole time with him gaining alittle bit the hole tiem...My clutch may be a big factor in why my car is so slow...I have had my car for a year and know how to shift good and he has had is for a month and just learned stick, so its not my inability to shift..My main questions it will a bad clutch that is slipping alittle bit through the gears make that much of a difference in racing...threw the powere band am I losing power ??? maybe my engine just sucks, but i get good gas milage and no engine oil burned ?? Will my ACT that I have in the mail make a difference if I have a crap aftermarket clutch in there now ?

A bad clutch won't slip in all gears, except right as you release it after shifting. Disregarding the small amount of time right after the shift, a bad clutch will slip in 5th, then 4th, then 3rd, then 2nd then 1st depending on how long you let it go before you replace it.

You'll notice your clutch sliping first in the higher gears, not right after you shift. Clutches tend to slip in 4th & 5th before they will in other gears. Also the 95 & 96 maximas are the fastest of the 4th generation. So if yours is newer than that and ya'll are driving about the same his car will win every time.

Your new clutch will help you. IF you are making hard shifts (racing) when you go into the next higer gear, if you try to pop the clutch, you're dumping a lot of torque on there at once and it will slip. Mine did it a lot before the new clutch. Unfortunately, after you get used to the new clutch, and its added grip, you'll be asking how to make your car faster even still. When's enough? Just a little more. hehe

Get rid of those incredibly heavy 17s and you'd be quite a bit quicker. Street racing proves nothing because one guy can react just a fraction of a seond earlier and get a jump. Take it to the track and compare timeslips. That's the ONLY way to accurately see who has the quicker car.
