If you want i can put u in contact with an Is300 owner who sold it to get a 2k2 max and has not looked back.

The IS had nitrous and $$$ tranny upgrades and still ran slow!

Actually, neither.

With that money, I would get:

Slightly pre-owned 97-99 M3
94 Acura NSX with 25-35K miles
Audi A4 1.8

just my opinion...

Doesnt the Lexus have a much higher price tag?
I vote Max...although I think the IS300 looks better, you'll probably have more fun in the Max.

Max,

The lex is highly overrated and looks like a riced out s-box. I just test drove one saturday. OK... but too expensive and too small. Feels and looks like a nice $20,000 Toyota.

And you should be able to get a max for many thousands less..... Lexus dealers typically don't deal.

Here's my take.

If the IS300 was cheaper by few grand, I'd get that. But if the Max and the IS are really same price, get Max...
You are jumping from a 95 to 2k2 max, so dont think of it as getting "another same old Maxima".. 2k2 and the 95 is a totally diff car..
But if I were you,, I'd save up and get a used M3 or a used 330...
The insurance on the M3 would be too much, but I think it will be reasonable on the 330.

Nope.

If I were you i'd get a used 95-98 Cobra or z28 or Firebird V8. You would have like $12,000 left over for the mods...yes the insurence will be higher but with the sh!tload of money you will save you'll be able to easily afford it and mods.

Go with the Lexus, you'll get performance options outta your @$$. s/c, t/c, inline six, RWD, damn. Plus chicks really dig it when you say you drive a Lexus. When I say I drive a Maxima, they ask me who makes it. 2JZ, the only thing Toyota made that actually turned my head...not the 1JZ though. Drool...Supra was an UGLY body though, I confuse those and Tiburons all the time!

Of course, speeding past them @ 135mph is louder than words (literally). Them and their crappy Civics, Preludes, Accords, Neons, Cavaliers, Corolla, Celica, Camrys. Go figure.

There's no question - Go for the Maxima. Who wants a cramped little Lexus that looks like a punk teen-ager car when you can have the Max??

The Lexus is good for the looks, the fact that it's a Lexus, and probably build quality (come on... Lexus' are bullet proof).

Maxima is going to get you more speed, probably the same amount of interior comfort, and a larger car.

Of course, I think IS300's have a lot more aftermarket support than 2002 Maxima's. I could be wrong, though?

So I guess it just depends on what you want. I can't really offer my opinion, because in about a year I'm going to be selling the car I have and making the exact same decision (although I don't think it'll be 2k2 Maxima vs. IS300... more like 2k3 Maxima vs. G35 ).

Good luck.

max vs lexus

id say max. the lexus (when ive been in them) have been cramped (course im 6 foot 3) but a max is a max. the max is superior (though maybe not in looks) id still say max. trying not to be biased...so hard

get a manual 99 se-l, then use the rest of the money to mod it like crazy.

but if i have to choose between those two...
max 2k2. the difference in interior space alone is enough to convince me.

my friend has an is300, and my auto max used to wup it all the time, till he finally learned how to drive it. it's smaller yet it weighs at least 300lbs more than a 4th gen. RWD is nice though, his car punches more than mine when you step on the gas. i've driven that thing, i feel so cramped.

as for aftermarket parts, you had better learn some mechanics. me and my friend went to the lex dealer to ask about mods, and i almost beat the guy's head in when he told me the prices. listen to this:

for a SMALL price of $12,000 you get:
front spoiler, side skirts, small spoiler that latches onto the trunk, rear lip spoiler, and an intake.......and that's it.

at first i thought he said $1,200. i refused to believe that it was $12k. then my friend asked him again and i had a heart attack.

oh yea.... it DOES count to say that my friend is the only MALE on campus that owns an is300...come to think of it, i've never seen a dude driving one.

can't wait to get my intake and ypipe. then his reign will be over.......overrrrr.......

If you’ll buy 2k2 max, in one year you’ll end up with an old body style MAX, which is $10k cheaper IMO.

I hope you meant the G 35... I'd get one of those in a heartbeat, but if the choice was Maxima or IS300..... Maxima wins.

One more vote for the Max

I thought about selling my 99 when the IS300 came out, until I actually sat in the car. I felt cramped in the drivers seat and I'm only 5'0.

I'm surprised. I have a friend who has an is300, I've driven it, I'm 6' 1", and I didn't really feel cramped. It definetly is a lot smaller inside than the Maxima, but the interior also felt more solid to me. And that's saying a lot, since I already think build quality on Maxima's is pretty high (although my front bumper is slightly misaligned ).

I'm also surprised at the person who said his friend's IS300 is faster than his Maxima. Auto vs. 5-speed maybe (I think maybe that's what it was? I don't remember... sorry), but the IS300 I drove felt about as fast as the Maxima. RWD is nice, though.

I agree that you should seriously consider the G35. I haven't been in one or driven one yet, but it seems to be the general consenus that the interior quality is way above the Altima. And if that's the case... there's no reason to get a Maxima over one. More powerful, roomier, and just as nice inside.

Take some test drives and decide for yourself.

Between the Max and the IS. I would have to say Max.

Hmmmm....on a Maxima website, did the Lexus actually have a chance? Probably not, but it didn't deserve one anyway. Stay w/ Max.

Z... blegh.

Four door cars forever!

Seriously, I don't think you're going to like the downgrade from a roomy, comfortable, fast 4-door to a kind of cramped, just fast 2-door. Just my opinion.

I'm so much happier with the Max than I was with the Integra. And power has nothing to do with it.
