what needs replacing?
Shocks?
Springs?
both?

everything is stock...

I'm figuring if I want a smooth ride that I should stick with stock replacements... anyone disagree?

You probably need new struts. Springs don't wear out.

Test your struts with the Bumper Bounce test. With the car parked on a level surface, walk to any corner, put both hands on the bumper, and press down. As soon as the car sinks under your weight, release it. Do this two or three times to get the car oscillating. Then step back and observe. Ideally, the body will move just one more time and stop at the normal ride height. If it continues to "nod" that is a sign of a worn strut at that corner. Repeat the Bumper Bounce test at the other corners.

Springs generally last the lifetime of the vehicle, but in some instances they sag or break. If your car has one corner which rides distinctly lower than the others, check for a bad spring on that corner.

Yes, stay with stock components to preserve the smooth ride.

Metallic 97 is on the money.

Get new shocks - springs will outlast the life of the car.
To maintain stock compliance get stock tokicos.-Or monroe.
However the upgrad shocks from stillen will ride as good as the stock set up but should last longer and cost the about the same.

Also check your tire pressure with a good gauge. If the tire pressure is too high the ride gets hard. If your in an area where the temp has gone down to around freezing, that also makes the struts stiffer and gives a hard ride. KYB GR-2 struts are also a good replacement for stock struts.
