Hey guys,

i decided on my last oil change to put synthetic oil in my car instead of the regular oil. I'm not sure if this was a wise move since i don't think the car ever had synthetic oil used in it before. It's a 98 max with 65000 miles. I'm using Mobil 1 Tri-synthetic oil 15W-30. Is this good for my max? Thanks and if not, what is the best motor oil for the max. thanks

Mobil 1 oil is one of the best. Next time try 5w-30 or 10w-30 energy conserving, in order to improve fuel economy and conserve energy.

If you think the W in 5w-30 or 10w-40 means weight your wrong it means winter, it has to do with the viscosity of the oil at a certain temp. the type of oil you use should depend on where you live 5w-30 is for colder climates but will give you better gas milage if used because it is thiner. Synthetic is good for your engine and mobile one is a great oil if not the best. I use 10w-40 but I live in alabama where it is hot, so the oil stays pretty thin anyway. Synthetic also last longer like around 9000 miles as aposed to 3000 for regular oil.

 

Amsoil tested the best... Try it. I use Mobile1 and like it at the moment. (5w-30)
