The following link is a 'do it yourself' guide to replacing the elusive knock sensor.
Some dealers are asking $400+ for this 15 minute proceedure.

Just what I needed... order knock sensor on Monday from Courtesy Nissan. Hopefully it will be here for my to install it this weekend.
Got a lot of how-to's from what's been posted on this site but now i know what tools i need to get....
Kudos to Skippy and PhatBaster for posting this thread.

No hands are needed at all. Use the skippy method (with magnet antenna) to extract the sensor and bolt. When putting it in, get a very long pair of tongs that have good grip and position the sensor approximately over the hole. With the other hand you are spinning the bolt with Skippy's 14" extenstion and 12mm flex socket, until the bolt engages into the hole. No hands and it is indeed 15 minutes. NOTE: it is a little easier on my 1995 5 speed than my dad's 1998 Auto. He has a bunch of tubes and connectors that obstruct the opening...

I'm probably going to be getting a VI soon. When I replace my oem one, my knock sensor will be in plain view witht eh manifoled off. Should I replace my KS even though it's OK?? Does it wear out? Since it has no moving parts, I figure if it ain't broke . . . . . .
How much is a KS anyway?

I paid $164 @ Courtesy Nissan.
For that kind of $$, I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Check your ECU codes, if 0304 ain't in there, your KS is ok.

Replace mine last night, took about 30 minutes. Did not read skippynet section about removing the U clamp, took me 10 minutes to figure that crap out. I have small hands and did not get any cuts!!!
Thanks skippnet for the info.
