Engine mounts WTF???

My sisters 95 SE has a problem. The steering feels extremely wobbly at any speed and has an extreme amount of play in it. The car does not feel solid on the road. I took it to a very good Nissan mechanic and he told me that front/rear engine mounts were shot. I trust him as I know him very well but I'm wondering if this is actually causing the problem. Also, I inquired about engine and was told that there are two!! front and two rear mounts. Is this correct? I thought there was only 1 front 1 rear mounts. Can someone shed some light on this issue and also tell me how many engine mounts there are? I think her front mount is computer controlled (standard SE feature). Please help as the car does not feel very safe to drive.

Thanks

Anton

I'm not sure if they would affect suspension, but to answer one question...There are 4 engine mounts, one on the left, one rear, one front and one on the right that connects to the tranny and not the engine.

I've got the same problem with my 95 Max. It seems to wobble and pull to the left randomly. I have to keep a firm grip on the steering wheel to keep it going straight.

I'm planning on taking it in for an alignment tomorrow, but could it be something else?

bad tie rods and control arms, and when you do those, youll have to get a wheel alignment.

if you hit a bump, the steering wheel will change directions, tie rods keep the wheels firm and so do the control arms.

-open the hood
-have someone sit behind the wheel and gas the car
-first have them change from P to R to D to R to D to R etc.
-then have them gas it hard while in P

the whole engine block is gonna jump
you can usually tell by which way it is rocking

more times than not, the front and rear mounts are gonna be the shot ones. they are also hydraulic if my memory serves me correctly. about 100 bux a piece if you order one yourself. my suggestion is to get one off rockauto or autoparts warehouse or someplace and bring it to the mechanic (once you find out which one you need) and pay him the labor to install it. in my experience there is a huge margin for markup with engine mounts. its better if you get it direct than having him order it.

The rear is never hydraulic, and the front only is on automatics (and even then only SE/GLE, IIRC).
