Shaving trunk...

ok, i went to Sunken Meadow Auto Body here in Commack, NY and the guy said that in order to shave the trunk, he would have to use some sort of tool forget what its called that saws off the letters w/o touching the paint and then use some kind of air tool to get all the glue off and smooth it out. it is only gonna cost me $25 and i dont trust myself because i already messed up a ton of DIY stuff on my car. anyway i wanted to know if these tools would get the job done well and if they would cause any problems. and dont tell me to just do it myself. thanx.

$25 seems OK, I mean it's not that expensive, but I still think you should do it.

You have to pay to get it done? I thought all it took was a hairdryer, fishing line (or dental floss) and some goo gone ??

Those would be the "tools" the mechanic was talking about.

Actualy all it took me was fishing line, rubbing alcohol, and fingernails.

do it yourself.. there is nothing you can mess up unless you decide to use impact tools.

lol, I have done this and all I can say is it is easy. You won't have that imprint. Just rub it off with water. Scrub and Scrub and then use some polish and wax and it is gone for good.

dude, FRIGGIN EASY check this out....
get some strong fishing line (i reccomend at least 20lb test ) wrap each end around your fingers and slide it behind the letters individually (duh!) then just saw them off! then pick off the glue and residue left behind and use goo-gone or something similar to get the rest of it off. then wash the trunk and Wax On, Wax Off VOILA you now have a smooth azz.....

UPDATE

ok so i went and shaved the hamburger myself, i left the M A X I M A for now, ill shave that another day. my final result was very good but looking at it from an angle in the sun you can see very slight stratch marks in the clearcoat (i think they are from my fingernails picking at the glue.) but i am happy with it i think it looks a lot better and makes it stand out a little more from all the other maxes.

just use a cloth with the goo gone, not paper towels, because they scratch paint, especially when you rub hard.

It's like this liquid that loosens the sticky stuff from old tape and things like that.

Used a whole bunch of it when I was working at the factory re-labeling computer boxes.

I can find them at the Home Depot around here.

I'm afraid of doing it for the same reason...My max has some "stains" on the bottom of the letters...I don't know If I'l be able to take them off. Let me know how it went.

i think a clay bar would take care of any darker spots around the shaved area
