How in the world do people run 14.8's with a stock 5spd SE???

 

it all depends on the driver,weather,and track conditions. if conditions are optimal and traction is good and you're shifting at 6500rpms on the 1-2 6200rpms on the 2-3 and 6000rpms at the 3-4 then you could very well do it. i did it with just an intake.

Could be. The launch is the hardest part. That is where your time is most affected. Btw, my launches are horrible. They're so bad I've even thought about taking off in 2nd

 

feather the clutch somewhere between 2300 and 2800; thats where my lauches are best.

Well how long have you been racing? I've been racing a Volvo 850 Turbo for about 4 years. Now that I drive a 5 spd Maxima, launches are WAY easier comparably, just because you don't have to worry as much without turbo lag, and the stock Maxima engine has a VERY broad, and smooth torque curve.

Just practice, and take things into account. Remember what worked, and what didn't work. For example, depending on conditions, I will launch anywhere from 2000rpm to 3000rpm, and depending on temperatures, I will sometimes do burnouts on the stock Toyos, and sometimes I won't. Basically, don't just drive. Pay careful attention to all the little details.

Now that I have been practicing with the Maxima, I can almost ALWAYS get 14.8's. I used to fluctuate between 14.9, and 15.2. But within a day at a track, I had consistent 14.8's.

 

do mufflers really do anything? listen to guitaraus, im a ricer no REAL exhaust mods yet...

Same way I run 15.2 with a stock auto...good launch technique.

 

Can you explain to me how you launch with an auto? Do you just powerbrake? If that's not it, could you explain further? Thanks!!
