I talked with Jeff K. about this some time back.

I need new Hood Struts so far I've tried Schucks (local autoparts store) and Pep Boy's. Niether have the size the Max needs. I'd rather say away from Nissan's as the one's I have only lasted (2) years. Any leads on these?

Thanks

I tried every where...

but apparently they don't make aftermarket shocks. I tried Lowry's (local) Pep Boys, Auto Zone, O'Reily's, and ended up getting stock ones. They are a biatch to get off and one too!

How much were the stock ones? Mine only want to hold my hood up if I've been running the engine for awhile and they get warm. Thanks

Jamex makes chrome hood shocks. Does anybody know if they have a fitment for Maximas? Mine don't work too well, either- especially when it's hot.

The stock were I think $79 each and then you have to buy the ball bearings which were $20,Complete Rip Off,But at least my hood stays up now and that is Priceless.

I think that I'm gonna just stick with a hood prop, 'cause I'd never trust hood shocks again. I'd be too afraid to stick my head under the hood after seeing that thing fall suddenly with these bad hood shocks.

Hmm... Maybe if we have one of each, we'll be covered all year long.

By some new ones

I tried to find hood shocks everywhere, but no one had one for the maximas. Eventually after using the club for about 1 year to hold up that heavy hood I order new hoods shocks. The dealer around myway(bronx) was asking 90 bucks. I eventually got 2 new ones from courtesy nissan for about 66 bucks each.
by the way the part numbers are:
left hood shock(65470-40u00)
right hood shock(65471-40u00)

hope this helps

Go to partsamerica.com and search for strong arm - they used to have them for $16 each but now are twice that... But WAY cheaper than buying from the $$tealer

Bought 2 struts two weeks ago at Napa. Paid $29 each. They had one in stock, had to order other. Took 1 day.

You likely only have one that is bad. They say to replace in sets, but I don't know why if one is just fine. Aren't you using hood with one bad strut now? I can see if hood would rack or bend with one bad strut, but they are too weak to cause that. Old hood springs were different: If one was bad, the hood would get tweaked bad when closing it.

Pull each one off and depress. You will know which one is bad. If both feel the same, then replace both. Or if you have the cash, buy two new ones anyway.

Just got mine at Autozone for $20 a piece. Took about 10 mins. to install. Vise-grips work well also.

I wouldn't spend the money to replace the struts. Buy yourself a small, cheap locking pliers and lock it right at the strut when the hood is up. I think it's the most efficient way. 2x4s or putting a stick is ghetto looking and dangerous. The locking pliers work great.

All I'm saying is that's my preference. For $40 bucks I can do a lot more than get hood struts. Just like others say they put 2x4s, I just wouldn't go that route. Besides, I don't do car shows so I don't care. I still think it's better than carrying a block of wood around!
