tachometer shorting? Best Brakes for the money?

My tachometer tends to jump around while accelerating and sometimes when my foot is off the gas and I'm braking. The check engine ligt came on, but I diagnosed it and there were only a couple of sensors that needed replacing, nothing that I think would effect the tach. Anyone had this problem?
Also, what are the best aftermarket stock replacement brakes that are decently priced? New Pads? SS Brake lines? Where do I get them?
I worked on the Max for hefirst time in a while since after taking all my stuff off tosell it, but I decided to keep it since I most likely couldn't get much for it and I'm going to need a dependable car for school, anyways I fixed the starter noise that I had by cleaning it and regreasing it........It felt nice to work on the car again.....
