MPG worse after changing fuel filter
hey i dunno why but my gas mileage got WORSE afte changing my fuel filter, i thought it would help get me some better mileage, but only made it worse..didnt expect that. I dont think there are any leaks, how can i securely and 100% check for leaks? my idle is also alot lower after the replacement

I'm not calling you dumb...but...
...is it mounted in the correct direction ie. up/down
also double check to see if ther is a leak, crack or puncture in that small line that might have happened during you change out.

hmm
this might sound stupid or might really be a dumb idea... but... maybe you should try resetting your ECU.... disconnect the battery and let it sit for a little bit... then reconnect it..
What i am thinking is, it might take a little bit for the ECU to adjust to it. If your old one was clogged, it was adjusted to a certain air/fuel ratio.. sending fuel at a higher pressure so the right amount would get to the injectors even with it clogged... now that it's free, it is still used to the pressure of the old fuel pressure and even more fuel is going through.. could be, i'd give it a shot, besides that, nothing else makes sense if there are no leaks or anything. unless the fuel filter u bought is defective

Re: MPG worse after changing fuel filter
Check and possible clean your air filter. CAI filters get dirty fast b/c of their down lo location right next to the front wheel.

You might have a slight leak that is really hard to notice. When I got my car back from having the tranny replaced, I noticed my gas milage was horrible. I checked and checked but could never find any leaks. So finally one day I take my car full throttle down the street, then I stopped quickly and pull over, pop the hood, and Ta-da, find the fuel leak. Seems Nissan didn't tighten the lower clamp back up on my fuel filter. Wouldn't leak just driving around town, but when I got up to speed, it would start to leak pretty bad. Gas evaporates pretty quickly, so you have to be quick to check it. Check all the other hoses in the area you were working in also, maybe you pulled something loose and didn't notice. Good luck.
