I think you would be scraping the lip, get some bigger rims 17" lifts you up an extra inch. and you will be OK.

car on the right

225/50/16
lowered 1.6" with lip

about 5.5" off the ground and I sometimes scrape stuff. Nothing bad really just rubbs against really steep curbs and driveways. Nothing bad but it takes getting used to driving up everyting at like a 45 deg. angle

17s wont get you car higher. It will be the same diameter as a 16" rim, only it will have more rim and less rubber.

Lip on 16"

In Winter I use my stock rims & tires. I've had my front lip last 4 months & (touch wood), I have yet to scrape it. The paint is in pristine condition.

Just be a little careful...that's all.

Im not made out of gold to buy new rims
They wouldnt do anyhting cause 45-17 rims is the same as 50-16 If I were to get 50-17 then its different story.

Do you want to measure rims to show you that my wheels are bigger than your 16" thats saying if you put a 65/15 wheel next to a 45/17 wheel it would be the same size. No I don't think so.

Not the rim. No sh*t the rim is bigger but because you went to 45-17 from 55 or 50-16 or even 65-15 that didnt change anyhting. The rim got bigger but the rubber got smaller. Measure the whole rim and rubber and I will do the same. It should be very close in size.

exactly !! when you go from 16" to 17" or any other size for that matter, if you buy the correct size tire, your overall diameter of the wheel (rim + tire) should remain the same (probably a few millimeters off) so that your speedometer reads the correct speed. if your wheel size changed by an 1" as you claim....GOD BLESS YOU!! your speedometer reading will be way off and if i am not mistaken, it will read slower i.e. you will be travelling way faster than your speedometer shows. hope this helps.

Sorry but I don't have a tape measure. But I have a question for you, when I had my 15" GLE rims and changed it to my 17" Tantrum why did my car sit up an extra 1" or so like a 4x4 thats why most of us get a drop because after getting bigger rims our car jacks up more. Explain that to me ?

Theoretically it should not change but hey, get the tape measure and I will be happy. Im not arguing just trying to see how bad it would be with 16s. Thanks for all the imput.

The 17" wheels/tirs can very well life your car up .5" or so. But it's not the wheels, it's the tires. There's more slack in the sidewall of a 15" tire than in a 17" tire. So the 17" tire sits straight and there's your extra .5"

seriously though, by logic it should not sit higher with rims that are up to 18" ofcourse if they are the right profile.

15" stock rims have a higher sidewall/profile.. When u get a bigger rim, the tire sidewall/profile gets smaller.. the bigger the rim the smaller the tire.. so they even out and overall it is still the same... or at least should be

example:

stock 15s have a 65 profile
stock 16s have a 55 profile
aftermarket 17s are paired with 45 profile
18s are 40 though.... i guess 18 might be a little bigger.. although i heard that everything up to 19" is okay....
