Depending on your system

I have a head unit that requires separate amps to power the speakers. My speakers have a low sensitivity and demand more power than the stock radio gave. I'm using a 50 X 4 watt amp. This is perfect to go with my Rockford Fosgate Fanatic X's components for the front and Infinity Kappa 652.1i for the rear. These should be powered by at least 25 watts RMS. As for the sub, I'm running a JL 12W6 in a hatchback box. Great speaker. I picked up all these speakers for a total of $220. I bought them from friends with great discounts and deals.

While this belongs in the Audio forum, i'll give my suggestions

Of course it depends on what you want and what you want to spend. I have Dynaudio speakers myself, and while I love them, they aren't for everyone. Focal is a great brand, and at http://www.zalytron.com, you can get the 2 way 6 1\2" coax's for $99. I don't know of any speakers out there that can touch them in the same price range. I like JL for subs myself, but there are quite a few other good brands that others swear by. Best thing to do is listen for yourself. what sounds god for one person may sound like junk to another......

Sure here's some feedback

I went thru 4 brands of subs until I got JL Audio subs. They are in my opinion the best sounding subs for the money. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Top of the line W6 is really nice, it utilizes small enclosure and sounds very nice.
As for the mids, I went thru 4 brands also. I like my Diamond Audios for their clarity and power handling. If you like treble go with MB Quartz, I personally don't like em, too harsh for my ears. Focals are also really nice but very pricey. Bostons are good for their price. I might be biased but listen to Diamond Audio's, you might like them.

IMO

Interior Speakers
Cheap- Pioneer
Better- Kappas
Best- Focal, Dyna's

Subs- somewhat depends on size
Cheap- Swapmeets have excellent deals
Better- Orion HCCA
Best- Alumapro, Focal has some nice ones

Amps
Rockford Fosgate is all I will ever use

What is it you are looking for in a system? Do you want the clarity focals and 10" subs will offer, or do you want to make your ears bleed. I [used] to run two orion competition 15"s with 1000w each from seperate amps in a box that took up my whole trunk (24deep). But I also loved the performance my old JL 10"s used to offer on even the most stacatto bass lines. Most importantly is what kind of budget are you working with here?

I would agree,

I would have to agree on several of your suggestions. I've listened to the Diamond's and I liked them alot. I personally went for the Boston Pro 6.5 for the fronts and the rears. I liked the idea of being able to mount the tweeter in the middle of the mid for my rears. I also have a Boston Pro 12" sub. This is a very tight and loud sub. It kicked my Kicker Solobarics booty. I run all this from a Sony CDX-C90 and PPI amps. Once again it all depends on what you want from your system. Crazy bass or really good sound quality?

For the sub, it depends on what kind of bass lines you like. If you like lows I would suggest a 15". But it all depends on what you like. The bigger the diameter the sub the lower the bass produced. The only thing is that you wont pick up higher range bass with a huge sub. For a brand I would recommend Crystal. Their subs are reliable and put out good sound. For the speakers, I just left my bose system in that came with the car. But if you don't have bose, look into a sony explode setup. I have heard those and they sound really nice.
