13.6 @ 100 Mph 2.100 60'
Just got back from the track today. Didn't think I could improve much on my 13.8 but things fell together. Had my son coaching me and managed to do some pretty good times. Only made it to the semi-finals because I didn't pick up that my dial on the board was 13.5 instead of 13.8 which it should have been. Someone punched it in wrong. So I lost that round by .156 but learned a valuable lesson, make sure every run that the dial-in is correct, its your responsibility to make sure they do it right and don't stage until it is corrected, otherwise you accept it.
I managed to keep my reaction times in the low .5xx until the eliminations when the heat of battle gets to me and I did a couple of .6 and 7's but still managed to hang in there till the semi's.
It was great having people walk up and say hey your doing great man, can't believe you are doing that with a Maxima. It sure made a few people in our neck of the woods sit up and pay attention to a great car.
I was also surprised I could get down to a 2.100 60', didn't think I would ever make it but just have to experiment with pressures, launch methods etc etc.

Oh ya, I also have a pair of two year old M/T slicks which I run at 12 psi that my Son gave me along with the nitrous kit. I run at 1000-1050 psi with my $20 bottle heater, that was also given to me by my Son. Pretty good kid, he also took this picture.
PS That burnout was the first one I tried in Drive and it shifted to 2nd gear which really brings on the white smoke because of the tire speed, I was always doing it locked in 1st gear before.

I think you have the second fastest nitrous auto 4th gen. You all know who's the top dog is.
So with Jime's run, who's the fastest auto 4th gen?
1) DoninTexas 12.2
2) SteveChicagoSC 13.2
3) Jime 13.6
Right? Anyone else I'm forgetting?

BTW, I live one street above Mulock in those big Condo's on east side of Yonge. I'm retired so don't spend much time on the road except going to the races.

Wow, good job Jime. I had a TON of traction problems when first used the 100 shot. 1000+psi is more like a 125 shot also. Best I could get down to was a 13.9, but I could never get traction. Good job. Hopefully after this VLSD install, I'll have to build up for bigger and better things...

VLSD... Viscous Limited Slip Differential. Available only on Canadian 4th Gen Maximas. It is a traction device that delivers power to the wheel in traction when one is slipping.

Jime....Great time, congrats. I tried my damndest to get into the 13's Friday night, but traction was absolutely terrible. My 60's sucked and I think I was also running rich (just stuck at 1000F even at the end of the run). I ended up with a 14.2 @99mph. I need a little advice when you get a sec. I'm still a 70 shot don't know if I'm going to 100 or going direct port yet. I wanna tune what I have to the edge so I can decide. Let me know when I can bounce a few ideas off you.

Axles & Slicks
I wanted to know if running slicks on your Maxima's cause premature axle failure, compared to just street tires @the track? Because in our SHO's slicks pretty much mean the end of your axles, so few SHO's run slicks, just wanted to know if Maxima axles reacted to slicks the way our SHO's do. If Maxima's dont blow axles like this then i'll have to find a way to switch my axles with a Max(damn ford quality )

Don't get me wrong if you think that running slicks, nitrous, etc etc doesn't shorten the life of your car, it does, but as long as I am getting lots of wheelspin I think chances of blowing something are a wee bit reduced vs a solid hookup. That happens to me more running N/A because of a much reduced power output.
Most stuff I am doing now is seat-of-the-pants stuff because not too many people can give you advice or are willing to.
I do appreciate all the great folks on the org though, I have learned a great deal during the past 4 or 5 months through reading and asking questions, it sure made my Maxima learning curve much faster. Thanks
Jim
PS I still have a lot more to learn though.

Re: Re: Axles & Slicks
Jim(Jime), I am not naive in thinking that if you push your car more you will still get long last durabilty out of it. I just needed to know if the shock of the sudden traction with slicks reduce the life of the axles. I'll guess i'll have to find out the hard way later when I go to the strip with my MTX SHO.
BTW that is one f*cking quick 1/4mile time for an ATX Maxima, keep up the good times.

what is an average 1/4 mile automatic and 5 speed sho?

So your 2.100 60' time was on slicks? Sounds to me like there are even lower ETs to be had with your current setup if that's the case.
I'm sure my friend brian will be thrilled to read this... he's still stuck at 14.0 @ 103 with his 100 shot 5 speed hehehe.

yea...103mph with a 2.45 60ft.....hmm....
If someone would lend me slicks, I would EASILY be low 13s....I spin halfway down the track.

well, brian, you haven't even made it out this year yet, right?
OH, and for the record on the fast autos. i know of someone else on here that's ran 13.2's in his automagic. i think the sn's furbiss...

Nice time!
As far as axle breakage goes, I think its more a relative function of what the 60' time is when comparing similar model cars. The lowest I know of in a Maxima is 1.9xx. So until you get that low I wouldnt sweat it. Ive pulled 2.0xx on street tires, I just got some slicks and am hoping to get into the 1.9xx or maybe even 1.8xx
I also just got the AAA 100 mile towing package too!

I am using the 22x8x15's, I also have a set of 205/45/15 Nitto 555R's that can do pretty much the same times. They are even a little smaller than the slicks but are noticably heavier. My car is not lowered and it looks like a 4x4 with them on. I think the reduction in gearing by the tires helps considerably, I take off about .3 N/A with just the tires.
