lights off with ignition?

As a former Saab driver, I came to like the Saab feature where the headlights turn off with the ignition key. I would like to modify my newly purchased '96 GLE to do the same.
The task is to change the power to the headlight circuit from the non-switched source to a switched source.
Does anyone have advice as to how to best accomplish this? Pitfalls?

There are kits availible that allow for daytime running lamps >>
