Car not starting.

Alright guys lets see if any of you have an idea whats going on. Here is the problem.

Tonight I was at the hospital and whn I came out my car wasnt starting. The battery is fine and all accesories work. Yes there is gas. The plugs are platinum and only about 10K old at most. The fuel filter is new, oil filter etc is fine and new (nissan brand). Cone filter is clean sop everything seems like it should be okay as far as tuneup type things go. Also I checked the plugs to make sure the engine wasnt flooded or anything or had gas in there.

It would sound like it was just about to kick over but not actually turn on. It sounds like it is so close to kicking on but just wont. I dont know whats happening or why it isnt coming all the wa over. Any ideas? I am looking for anything at this point since it is still there. Could it be a starter? I figured if it was it would have given warning sounds though like squels on the startup and things like that I heard before.

Any help is great.

Not sure if it helps any but my dad had the same symptoms on his Accord. We had the started tested at AutoZone and they said it was good. Since they said it was good...my dad was puzzled since he checked everything else like you did, and decided to take it to the dealer since he needs the car to go to work. We had to get it towed to the dealer and to our surprise it was the damn starter.

Yeah I think tommorow I may check out the starter issue. It will be better during the day to work on it. Is there a way to test the starter?

Have someone crank the motor while you try smacking it with an end of a stick (no, I'm not joking).

I can probably guarantee it's the starter. Our Maximas are proned to have bad starters. If it fails to start, do what I do, "joggle" the key in the ignition while starting....this will get the solenoid going, because the solenoid tends to get stuck. Or, if that doesn't work, have someone tap on the starter while cranking. This helps also. Believe me, I had my Max for almost 8 years now, and I have experienced everything with starting problems. In fact, mine "acted-up" today. The starter is fairly new, not even a year old. I knew I should have bought a 10 tooth, instead of the regular stock 8 tooth gear!

I had a similar incident with Autozone. The alternator caused the battery light in my folks' Accord to light up. It was on its way to crap out but Autozone's cheapo diagnostic equipment kept saying otherwise. I replaced the alternator and the battery light went out.
