Ok here's the story..I have a a'99 Max GLE with about 25K KMs (16.3K miles) on it.

Recently I've noticed the car slips when its supposed to downshift. Here's an example:: Say I'm slowed down to around 40km/h because the car in front of me took a turn slowing me down. Then once the road is clear in front of me..I floor it (its an addiction). So the car revs up all the way to redline, but the car doesn't accelerate forward then after I let my foot off the gas pedal it moves.

It only does it occasionally and it only started once the weather became cold. (I live in Toronto).

I'm thinking of taking it to the dealership soon to get it checked out, but I don't want them giving me any BS.

Also, is it bad for the car if I floor it?? We change the oil regurarly so it should be ok?

Thanks..

what..no one knows?? I checked using the search feature..but most of the results had to do with older cars with more mileage or the 2000 Max's..

not a

mechanic but that doesn't sound good. I have a 98 and haven't had a single problem with my tranny slippin. I would get it checked out especially since it is still under warranty....happy camper and have 33k miles and counting

umm..

torque converter not biting?
you know that you're torque peak at 4500RPM right?
so passed 4500...you are not acceling at your max...
HP falls at 5500...
also...what gear was this at?
the second gear goes to 70 something
1st gear only to 30 something...
now...if you are at 20 something at the car decide to drop to 1st ...well you won't get as dramatic accel as you get...
my car accel best at 2nd gear....because usually it is on the 3rd gear at 40...then it down shift to 2nd when I push hard on the pedal ...it accels fast and when it shifts to 3d, I still accel fast...if I have OD on...than 4th gear comes in as soon as I slow down...kinda slow when that happen...
now...maybe your transmission is ok...but I dunno...
maybe my transmission is ill....

It might not be so much the trans, maybe it can be the TCM. I know some of the 2K Maximas had problems with slippage. It also sounds it might be time for a Valve Body upgrade.

I would love to do a VB body upgrade but I am in Canada and I don't really know how to remove the VB or put it on. Hell..I don't even know what the VB is!

Your at the top of the rpm's for the lower gear

right along with what the other guys where, saying, I have had pretty much the same situation, but I did it like 10 times to figure out exactly what was going on. I dont remember the certain speed, but if youare going about as fast as the gear below you can go, and floor it, it is gonna take the rpms almost to redline without acceling and then once you let off, it would shift up a gear and you feel it start accelling... that is my bet, b/c at first it worried me too.

When I say downshift, I don't mean that I actually put the shifter into "2". I just stamp on the pedal hoping the car will downshift and accelerate.

Thanks for the responses though.

the reason it does tha is b cuz u r in a drive
my car is the same
it revs all the way up to 5 and doents go n e where and hten it gets a big kick

i think its cuz we have a lot of torque...
wut i do is
i pop it in 2 and then gas it ...

I think i know what your talkin about. Is it when you are slowin down and then you floor it and the rpms goes up and then your car shoots forward once it reaches the top. This is your car gettin air quickly but waitin for the gas to mix in. Do you have CAI?

similar, except the car doesn't shoot forward. It doesn't accelerate, like its in neutral.
