ECU replacement

A friend of mine just bought a 99 Maxima SE-L. 23K miles on it the main ECU was missing and he located one out of a 99GLE model. We pluged the computer in and reset the ECU codes, the engine turns over but will not start. It now shows codes 1401 and 1402. Has anyone else had any experience replacing ECU's, any suggestions? And does anyone know what these codes are?

You may have to get the keys re-programmed for the immobilizer to work with the new ECU. Just a guess.

ECU's are different

My ECU in my '99 SE does not light the CEL so I have been seeing what it will cost to replace my ECU. My local salvage yard told me there are several different models of ECU for a '99 Max and I would need the specific part number for them to get the right replacement. For the "99 SE there are two different ECU part numbers.
I don't know if putting a GLE ECU in an SE would cause it to not start but I suspect the performance will not be up to specs even if you get it running. You might try calling these people who handle ECU's and see what they have to say.

I have tried to decode the 1401 and 1402 but the decoder only goes to 13 for the long pulses and from what I have read the 99's are a little differnt computer I have seen some posts with the error code 1405 mentioned on 99 models?

A little more info the SE-L has a production date of 12/98 and the GLE which the computer is out of has production date of 10/98

Both cars are
Automatic
No traction control
Non Calif.
No ABS

Also have noticed when the key is turned to the on position there is a noticable buzzing sound coming from the transmision pan you can place your hand on the bottom cover and feel it ????

The car cranks like normal but just never seems to catch?

We have checked all the fuses and all are ok. ( new battery also )
