Bought a new (to me) Max. Now need mod ideas...

I just bought a new (to me) 1996 GLE, sanddrift/sandalwood (?!?!) color.
57K, Warranty, Auto, Bose, Power everything. Basically, it is Loaded. I shopped around, but needed financing until I could sell my Jeep (which I sold TODAY, right after buying the Max). I actually pay for it tuesday, but the dealer gave it to me for the weekend to test drive, and I was hooked by friday night. I paid $10,500, down from 12,995, which was WAY overpriced. $10500 was still a little more than i wanted to pay, but it was 1 owner, straight title, no marks ANYWHERE, and it was owned buy the parents-in-laws of the dealer manager (New dealer, not a used lot). It was dealer serviced, and drove like a champ.

I have owned Jeep Cherokees for years (9, actually), and have done all sorts of mods, so I need to play with this one too. My Jeep, w/ a 4.0 I6 and a 5 speed, ran 7.1 0-60 and sub 15 1/4s. I need to beat that in my Max, at minimal cost AND without increasing exhaust note. I HATE loud and/or "ricey" exhaust. Any suggestions?
By the way, the search function works about 1/2 the time for me, so I have not been able to search a lot. Here are a few questions:

1. What is the best intake for the $? I want to keep (or increase) my torque, but up HP.
2. What can be done to add onto the stock Bose system? I want to start with a subwoofer first, then go from there.
3. What are the best sites for aftermarket parts and ideas?
4. How hard is it to go to white gauges? I would really like a set. Where can I get them, and for how much?5. How do I shave the rear Hamburger? Any write-ups or tutiorials?

That is all for now, I will post pics soon. Just a reminder, my search function barely works, so any posings here would help!

Thanks!

i never modded my 96 when i had it so i cant help you much with performance parts.

but check out www.custommaxima.com
Greg carries a bunch of stuff for our cars and he has pretty good prices.

ill let someone else answer the intake/audio/white guage questions.

but taking the nissan hamburger off is very easy. just get some dental floss or fishing line, wedge it behind the hamburger a little bit then just start sawing back and forth. just saw until you cut through all of the glue. after that, get some Goo-Gone and use a soft rog to get the excess glue off. wax and buff and you're all set.

ebay also has a lot of things for our max. Get some clear corners, drop it and rims.
If u want performance; get a PR (place racing) CAI or a popcharger/ Warpspeed or budget Y-pipe/ Apexi cat back-exhaust. Those would give u MAX performance for cheap $$$. U can always go w/ a underdrive pulley and supercharger later,

Unless you have NOS or a supercharger, an automatic maxima that runs sub 15 second 1/4 miles is pretty much unheard of. In terms of what will give you the most performance for your money: first I'd get a CAI (since you're an automatic), then a Y pipe, then the JWT ECU upgrade. On my 1996 GLE I was pretty happy with the performance combo of the CAI/Y pipe, but it just wasn't quick enough for me so thats why i found myself a 5speed!

I suggest starting with a CAI and clear corners....red/clear taillights or altezzas....spoiler if it doesn't have one.

1. If you don't want to drill a hole in your fender wall, go with the Hybrid setup - JWT pop charger + upper tubing of the CAI. you should get this cheap on ebay or probably look out for someone selling stuff on the org.
2. i'll leave that to the audiophiles on the audio/electronics forum
3. Stealin', Custom Maxima, Eat Rice. For how-tos and ideas, go to Cheston's page
4. putting on the white guages is not hard. you can get the white gauges from Import Intelligence. you may also want to try indiglo gauges

I am driving my moms 95 jeep grand cherokee as my only car now but i want a max so bad!! is wish she would let me sell it (could probley get about 8,000 for it). But since she still drives it she wont let me. I doubt i can afford a 95-96 max myself working part time but i am trying.

Thanks for everything so far, guys. By the way, my search function gives me a 502 or a 404 error all of the time. I will read the FAQs again before any new question, however.
