Rear main seal leak in an automatic?

I've got a 98 Maxima automatic. Taking it in for a one-year maintenance service today and the mechanic said that the rear main seal is leaking and that it will take close to $900 to replace it. Is there a cheaper alternative?

It takes the same amount of labor no matter where you go. Just depends on the quality of work and the hourly labor charge.

hmm I see a trend. This happened to mine. Mine was under warrantee, but I would have the dealership do it if the service department is any good; best to use OEM parts.

What's the mileage additionally you could use auto-rx @auto-rx.com this has cleared up many seal leaks on older cars with more miles

This car has 104000 miles on it.

Will Auto-RX help?

you gotta drop the tranny to replace it. $900 seems a bit steep, though.
