how to check airbag functionality...?

Is there a way to make sure that the airbags in my car will function in an emergency? The other day I rear-ended some stupid girl who had no brake lights, and while it only messed up my bumper a little bit and broke one of the parking lights (impact was probably about 10-15mph) I'm wondering if the airbags should have deployed. If they shouldn't have, no problem.. but if they should have then I need to get them fixed. Is there any method to test or do I have to just get new ones to be sure?

I was in an accident in my Max and the bags deployed. i was going about 25 though and it would've been enough to drive my face into the windshield. I don't think the airbags deploy at a speed below 20. I asked my cousin who owns an autobody where they replace airbags all the time. and he said most cars deploy only above 20. and depending how direct the hit was. your module which senses the impact is under your arm rest (the center console) it's mounted there to measure any impact from the front. i had to replace that. either way airbags tend to function pretty smoothly and the manual suggest getting them checked after 10 years. the module also has a ecu which turns on your airbag light were anything wrong with them. i dont think anythings wrong with them but dont take my word for it.

Ok, thank you very much for the information. I doubt I hit her going any more than 20 (I was going kind of fast but I had slowed down a lot by the time of impact), and I had also attempted to swerve around her to the right so the impact was not direct- the left front corner of my bumper hit the right back of hers. I have to bring the car in this week to get some belts replaced and have the tach. looked at anyway, so I'll have them make sure everything's in working order while they are at it.

Thanks again,

Doug
