put new wheels on the car and now it shakes uncontrolably>

Hello I was wondering if someone could give me some advice.

I put new 18inch wheels on my maxima and now the car rides extremly harsh and it constantly vibrates. I have ridden in cars with 18inch wheels before and the ride was never as harsh as my car and it did not vibrate. I think there is defently something wrong.

After I put the wheels on, I went and got wheel aligment done at a different place. The guy at the aligment shop told me that the wheels are not balanced right and told me to go back to the shop that put the wheels on and tell them to fix it. So I go back to the shop that put the wheels on, they said they will see whats wrong, but they also told me that the wheels them selfs could be bad. After they said they rebalaced the tires I still get shakes. I know its not the highway shakes because I found and drove over a perfect piece of pavement and still got the shakes. After that just to make sure I drove over the same piece of pavemnt in my other car and Accord riding on stock steel wheels with hubcaps and it was a smooth ride. There is defently something wrong with the max. Its ether the wheels or the work.

I got the wheels and tires brand new over the internet. I visually inspected both before I brought them to the wheel shop, I could not find any difects. Is there anything that I didnot see that could be cuaseing these shakes.

The shop I went to, does not do any serious work. All they do is put rims on tires. They don't do suspension works, any installs(even simple ones), all they do is sell rims and tires and put rims on tires balance them, and mount them on the cars. Further more the whole shop is staffed with like high school kids. So the quality of their work is really questionable. But I did go back to them and they said they fixed it. I can understand them screwing up once, but twice??? I only went to them in the first becuase they are open late.

So can anyone give me any kind of advice on what should I do?

I live in Northern NJ so if anyone knows a good shop thats not too expensive in that area where people actully do serious work, and can help me find out what is wrong please tell me.

I had a similar dillema. My wheels were perfectly in round but my Kumho 712s were just junk. I had them rebalanced like four times and could never get rid of the vibration. Truth is, some tires are just better than others, and the Kuhmos, IMHO, are at the bottom of the list. What tires do you have?

Go have the front tires rebalanced. I got new 17" rims with Falkens last month. The steering wheel and front end would shake at around 70mph (110km/hr). Took it back to have it rebalanced and now I'm happy! If the back tires act the same they can do them as well.

Where in NNJ are you located? Try contacting Precision Tire and Alignment in Ridgewood. They are on Rt 17 south. Those guys know their $hit.

Hubcentric rings ensure that your wheels are mounted properly. They fill in the space between the center bore of your wheels and the hub. If the bore is too big and you have no rings, your wheels will wobble and your car will shake.
