tried to brighten clearance lights...didnt work...ideas?

this is kinda of a continuation of another thread, but today i opened up my clearance housing and got the bulb out, clipped off the little nub closest to the glass. i put it back in. one way it felt loose, and only worked when the signal was on. the other way it felt tighter and worked normally (i have a 95). any ideas what i did wrong? any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think it's because you have a 95. NOt exactly sure but I only think this works with 97+ since 97+'s don't get brighter when you turn the turn signals on. Hope this helps a little.

No works for the 95 because I've done it. Shave both nubs completely and totally reverse the position, 180 turn. That should extremely increase the brightness.

if you shave both nubs there won't be anything holding the bulb in harness? are you talking about the same bulb? 1157?

I'm very experienced with this. I've gone through about 10 bulbs, just testing them out and what not.

The best way to do the shave-nib mod is to shave the top nib, and here's the catch: cut a 2 inch strip of electrical tape about 1/4'' tall, and wrap it on the level of the base that you just nibbed off.

This creates a very tight and secure fit, and I've found that its been a guaranteed success every time I've followed this procedure.

hope that helps

I simply shaved both of mine and pushed it in already turned 180. Not put it in normal and then turn it. It works and stayin quite snugly.

The bottom of the bulb has two little nipples right, while only one contact on the socket has power to it..what i did was lay about 1x1cm piece of aluminum foil between the socket and bulb. now both elements light up and no problems.

Re: success!

good job, i just cut the upper nub off with a nailclipper and inserted it backwards. i didn't use the tape method but it's good to know that also works too.

If you put it in backwards, how are the connections at the bottom going to be made? If you reverse the bulb and the bottom nub is in the upper slot, how will the bulb set deep enough in the socket to make contact? I tried it that way and got ZERO power to the bulb. What am I doing wrong?
