I'm running my car this weekend. THe temp should be mid 70's, elevation ~500ft. The track is in good condition. What should I run with this setup:

97 Max SE 5Spd ~45K miles
Cone Intake
Cattman Ypipe
Greddy Catback
Yoko A520 225/50/16
Eibach / Tokico

I shift pretty quick. Also, what PSI should I run the fronts and what RPM should I launch? Right now it's VERY easy for me to spin all of first.

I would say between 14.6-14.9,

It all depends on your driving ability and if you gut your car or not, about tire pressure pump your rears up all the way to 44PSI,and fronts I am not positive but about 22 PSI.For the lonch try reving youre car up to 4K RPM'S and don't just dump the Clutch rather release it just far enough so there is very little or no peel out.Pracice makes perfect Good Luck

Pretty hard to predict, but 14.8-15.1 seems reasonable-->

If you're new to the track, it'll take some time to get yourself acclimated. E-mail Jeff K for some 1st class advice. Typically, with an intake and Y, you should just break into the 14's. Gotta nail down a decent launch though.

With a Y pipe, catback, pop intake, stick and a few runs, you should get high 14's.

Practice does make a difference. I got the Gtech time too to help. That way if my 0-60 sucked I wouldn't bother running the 1/4

My 14.9x were all run at normal 34/31 tire pressures with some spin. You've got the Catback - I've got the UDP and RT Cat; pretty similar times probably. Good luck!

P.S. Brian's a pretty cool name!

I dunno I think that one guy thinks I just have the YPipe, but I got Intake and Catback. I don't think a 14.9x is unreasonable? I've raced my integra before, but this will be a first for the Maxima.

Suggestions- Front tires: 24PSI, Rear Tires: 44PSI. Before you head to the track, remove your spare tire, the jack, sub-woofer(s), the back seat, CD's, all the stuff in your glove box, and anything else that's loose in the car. Take a couple little zip-lock bags of ice to put on your intake manifold between runs. Leave your hood up between runs, and the engine off. Turn off the radio, the A/C, and any other accessory. When you approach the start the first time, you might be nervous. Don't be surprised. Not a big deal... It happens to all of us. Just concentrate on your routine. Don't pay attention to the other car in the other lane. Do *not* drive through the water box on your way to the line, drive out around it. Do *not* do a burnout. Just spin your fronts very briefly to knock off dirt/rocks/debris. Stage your car to *just barely* light the 2nd staging light. Get ready now! The starter will start the X-mas tree *very* soon. Keep your clutch depressed all the way, and rev to about 2,000 rpms. The yellow lights come on in 1/2 second intervals. Focus *real hard* on the lights, not your opponent. Feel the rythm of the flashing lights. Take off *just before* the 3d yellow lights up. With your street tires and the reaction time of your car, you probably won't red light. (A perfect reaction time (r/t) is .500 second.) When you take off, feather the clutch pedal as you quickly ramp up to WOT. Shift very quickly between gears. Shift at about 6,200 rpms. Don't miss a shift! Keep your car as straight as you can. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Race the car like you rent it. Don't stop racing until you are well past the finish line. Don't forget to smile... Pick up your timeslip at the shack. Analyze your performance after the race so you can figure out what you need to do on the next run to get a lower e/t. The start is important. A quicker 60' time usually translates into a faster run. Have fun with your trial & error. You'll figure it out.

First time out you'll probably be in the 15.3-15.6 range. I too thought I was a good driver in my Maxima until I raced it the first time. I ran 3 times and ran a 15.5, 15.6, and a 15.5 all runs with 2.5 60 foots. All runs were in the 91mph range. I made a lot of newbie mistakes though. I was running my heavy 17s, high pressure in the tires, full tank of gas, no cool down, no ice, and 90 degree weather. Next time at the track I break into the 14s and run a 14.99@92mph with a 2.4 60 foot. The last time out at the track I was 14.91@94mph with 2.4 60 foots. My shifting got better and my mph went up dramatically. My 60 foots are just pitiful.

Don't expect 14s your first time out because the track is much slicker than the street. Just do the best you can. 14s are easily possible, but it takes lots of practice.

We all think we're good drivers until you get that timeslip and look down and see mid 15s and you've got all the power mods. I was really disappoiinted my first time out, but I kept practicing. I love how my mphs are really high (94-96mph), but my ets still really suck. I still haven't found the right way to lauunch this car.

Can't be worse than a GSR. Clutch slipping from 5000+ RPM sucked. You either spun or bogged, but that 10% of the time that it hooked it was over.
