Brakes Makin' Noise

1998 Maxima GXE, 83,000 miles (Bought it a month ago)

May 30th, 2002. I bought 16-inch American Racing Estrellas and Yokohoma YK420s, all from discount tire. 5 days later I get this sound. Its a kind of low groaning/rubbing sound when i brake, but the sound isn't constant. It occurs at a frequency that has a direct relationship with my speed. When i'm slowly backing out of my driveway, the sound is a little over a second long when i'm lightly pressing my brake. When i'm slowing for a stop sign, it happens much more quickly, about 5 times in a second, with the frequency decreasing as my speed decreases. This has disturbed me, but I have not had time to go get it checked out.

Today i notice a groove in the brake disc on the rear passenger side, and took it in to Discount Tire for them to have a look at it. The guy said that the brake pads are probably cheap aftermarket pads (which makes sense b/c the tires when i bought the car were cheap, balding, off-off-brand tires) and that they weren't holding up well. He said that the groove is from something that got caught in the pad, be it something from outside or a chunk of the pad itself, and that it'll just wear away.

Anyone had this problem before or know what i should do?

One More Thing

This sound is also most noticable from inside the car.

Mine just recently started doing the same thing. I had made no changes to the car whatsoever. Mine sounded like it was from the front, so I took them apart, cleaned them, replaced the pad quides and anti-rattle clips, and put them back together. I didn't notice any scoring/abnormal wear anywhere. I have plenty of Nissan pad left (The clips and quides seemed good, but for $8.50 I changed them anyways). Seems like it cleared up. I don't know what had caused it. Maybe a gremlin.

Anti squeaking compound on the metal backing of the pads helps. There are several friction points that will need high temp grease.
