ypipe installed...got a ? on noise
we installed wsp ypipe on my bro's 97 I30
when we took it for a ride i heard a weird noise
when my bro gave it some gas...like getting it up
to around 2500 rpm....the noise was coming from like right
under where the ecu is.....an air gushing noise (dont know
how to explain it)
r ypipes suppose have a sound?
BTW, my bro has greddy catback and JWT +upper tube

probably the infamous bees in the can sound. I thought the new WSP ypipe suppose to eliminate this sound though? I have a pretty weird sound on my WSP ypipe too. I replaced the old flex section with a new lined flex section, but there's still some odd noises coming from the ypipe itself.

how do i know what the old flex and new flex section looks like?
The rattling noise is caused from the hanger at the y pipe and cat convertor connection point. Get under the car again and bend the hanger in towards the pipe from both sides. My car had a similar sound that you described - it went away after I fixed my rattle. I thought it might have been; when accelerating hard your engine rocks a little. When it rocks it elongates the flex section. I thought that after elongating the flex that maybe it leaked a little?
I never figured it out but it's gone away. Took about 2 months to go away.
One last thing; you did put new gaskets in at the two downpipe locations and at the cat ypipe connection right? Good luck.

that's what i was thinking....when we put the hanger
back we weren't sure if we put it back the right way
either.....we'll have to check that soon
and yes we did put the new gaskets on all 3 ends
Mike: i think it's a buzzing sound...it's not very loud
either..but still noticeable

I also have a weird sound but I think its normal. Its not really a buzzing but a very deep drone at any rpm under 3k and loudest around 1.5k. I checked everything and no leaks and also checked my flex which still looks fine inside it.
question- what does it sound like if theres a leak in the manifold/ flange? only thing I havent checked yet is the rear manifold area.

you said it was a air rushing sound, not a vibrating sound, the air rushing sound is common with all y pipes. Im guessing its due to the new air flow capabilities of the two straight pipes that go back, it has a sort of turbo wooshing sound to it, and that sound is very normal, everyone i know has it.
