Intake help please

I'm going to order the Injen intake soon but since I'm going to the track on Thursday I wanted to see if there was something I could do in terms of attaching a K&N filter. I was told it needs and adapter but my local shop ordered it twice and it didn't fit. Do I really need this adapter and is there anything that can sub for it? Can someone just tell me what I need to do to get a new intake but Thursday afternoon?
