relocating bose amp housing and amp

Did a search and came up with no matches but has anyone relocated the bose amps in the trunk?

I hate the fact that I have these two cones sticking down from my trunk celing as I need to fit these boxes for work in there.

I am thinking about taking the amps out of the housing and then mount them directly beside the speaker to give me some additional clearance.

Has this been done?

Any thoughts?

K.

I think the Bose system is awesome! I just gave my 89 celica to my brother and that car was LOADED w/ audio equipment and i was hoping the Maxima that i have now would have good audio... and the Bose does! Of course, it can never match up to the Celica's... my only pet peeve is that i don't have a CD-changer... and i don't wanna hav to replace everythin to have that installed in the maxima

See that head unit? Welp, when I get it pulled out, you can HAVE it!

It started when the CD in there wouldn't play, said ERR, and didn't eject for two days, then when it did, I decided not to use the CD player, just the radio. Then about a week or so later the radio starts shutting off. The CD comes on, says err then shuts off, over and over and over. For grins I tried to put a CD in there, wont take one now. I go looking for who repairs these. Seems *lots* of places do, and theres lots of repair places that specialise in the Bose amps. (One site I found did only Bose amps, nothing else) Lots o people making lots of money on these "fine" units.

I hear that this one was not even MADE by Bose, but by Clarion, and Bose let em put their name on it.

From what I've gathered, it seems that the Bose system *I* have is not compatible with the other systems out there. Speakers are a non standard 1 ohm, theres a "head unit" and a seperate "amp" unlike the rest of the car stereos. I hear for 150 bucks you can get an adapter that some say will sound like crap to get your non-bose radio to go to your bose amp and speakers, otherwise its a full replacment of everything.

Bose *sucks* IMHO. I'd be better off with a cheap delco system in there at this point.

The Bose system in the 95-99 Maxima is the same. Just the head unit got prettier, 99s being the prettiest. I was just at the NE maxima meet in Jersey, and I sold my 98 Bose HU to this guy who had your 95-96 Bose HU and that was giving him trouble. And yeah, all the head units are made by Clarion. Hre installed it right then and there, plug and play, and a cooler looking dash, too. I replaced my Bose HU with a Clarion DXZ815MP. Kept the rest of the Bose AMP/Speakers. Now my system sounds better AND I can play MP3s. I gave up the cassette, but then, the cassette format is DEAD.

Lefty, that is a fantastic idea I'll make it a summer weekend project. Plenty of room under the whole rear speaker shelf to re-locate the amps and make more clearance for the trunk.
