I should have been more specific...

Dunno anout warranty.

Get an independent mechanic to check it out. It's a good price from a dealer. That's a cause for suspicion right away!
They normally sell at or only slightly below Blue Book which is about 14-14.5k depending on how loaded it is.

If it checks out, you should also try and get a lemon check done on it, to see if it's been rebuilt after an accident or if there are any insurance claims on it.

If it still looks good offer them $10k and start haggling from there..

Go in on a weekday, when it's quiet. They have to make their sales to get their bonuses.
I offered $12k for a 99SE 5Spd that blue booked at $18,700 - dealer was selling for $18995.
They didn't accept the 12k but immediately said I could have it for $14k. I walked away knowing that I could play their game when the right car came along.

Good Luck!

Wow!

Thanks ORBIT!

I did exactly that...went in on a weekday and talked the guy down to ~$10k. I should say that I was surprised as to how easy it was to drop the price. Hmmm...

I also agree that getting an independent mechanic to check it out is a good idea.

Hopefully everything will go through!

So you're now the proud owner of a Maxima?

You got yourself a bargain there if all is well, mechanically with the car.

Hope the dealer experience was a pleasant one.

4th gens don't sell for 14k anymore. Ever since the 2k2's new engine the resale of our cars have dropped to about 11 or 12k. It ****ed me off because a while back I was seriously considering getting a new one thinking I could get at least 14 for mine but I checked and I would be lucky to get 13k.

Yup, but I love how the Nissan salesman told me how great their resale was.

There's a nice '99 SE here for sale -- fully-loaded and 5-spd for $15.9k
