My engine misses when at an idle with my foot on the brake

I bought my used 1999 GLE Maxima and love driving it. The only complaint I have is a miss. The tach drops a little bit each time it does this and it feels as if it might die. Sometimes it is few and far between but other times it does it over and over.
When using lousy gas stations, Valero ect. it was worse. I always pump premium and use Chevron now which seems to help some. Also using a bottle of Techron has seemed to help, but still the miss.
Ugg its driving me nuts. It does not do it in neutral.
Any ideas out there??? Also I had my plugs replaced recently at my 30,000 mile check.

I am having the same problem on my car, although it's not that often. All 4th gens have this problem. Bad Knock Sensor is the most common cause for this case.

The reason I notice it most(since I have the tunes turned
up most of the time) is that I see the tach drop a little
and I can feel it. Say I am idleing at 1 1/2. It will drop
to 1 1/4 and go back up. I cant describe it exactly. Just
that I can see and feel it. Sometimes it will do that
a bunch of times in a row and it seems like the car might
die so I put it in neutral and it stops. Reminds me of my 68
Mustang I used to have when the carberator we acting up. I
this explains it better for you.

Make sure that you have no intake leaks. It sounds hard to believe, but a pesky vacuum leak can cause your engine to sputter like it's missing. I know exactly what you mean when you say the rpms just drops and then pops back up again. On a 5 speed, this is usually when coming to a stop and pressing the clutch pedal. The RPMs will tach way down and then recover. In bad cases, you engine could stall. Previously, had a small crack in the fat tubing to the IAC... problem solved after the hose was replaced.

You didn't have to replace your sparks at 30K, there good for over 60K. What kind of plugs were put in? I hope the OEM NGK plugs were used. If you have the Bosch Platinum +4 in there, take them out!

Do you have a 5 speed or auto? What is your current idle speed? It should be 600 - 700 depending on auto or manual tranny. Auto idle speed is when your in "D".

Clean your throttle body, check out www.motorvate.ca for instructions w/pics to help you out. This usually solves idle problems and restores some throttle response.

Just replaced my plugs (OEM NGK) and immediately started getting a miss when idling in drive. Does not do it in Neutral. It's so intermittant, it's driving me nuts. Won't do it for hours at a time, then just once at every light, then goes away.

If it started after you replaced your plugs, then that is your problem. Did you drop any of the new plugs? It may have a slight crack or the gap is incorrect.

Spend $10 bucks and replace the fuel filter as well, especially after using cheap gas for a while.
