Bigtime Sunroof issues on my cousins 97 GLE(only pros need respond please)

My cousins sunroof is having issues with closing. It will open fine but will not close like the mechanism that closes the sunroof is somehow disconnected. He said he called talked to the dealership yesterday when he was having service done and they want to charge him 900 bones. Of course, he then said "F that!!!" and called me to help him out.
I need to know what's to best way to remove the roof lining when I remove the front and rear pillars? Anything else that can be added will be appreciated.

All of the pillar trims just pop off. Same with the various light and switch panels in the roof. Then the headliner pops off just like the door panels.

Cool!!!

Are you familiar with the mechanisms that control(open/close) the roof?

I'll keep that in mind. I don't remember him saying he could hear the motor running when he tries to close the sunroof.

Which way is he opening it? Tilt or slide back?

There are safty switches which tell the sun roof controller what position the roof is in. (tilted up or slid back) One of them may have failed causing the roof controller to be

I talked to my cousin and he said the motor is running when the switch is activated. This means that there is a linkage that is disengaged somewhere.

njmaxseltd: This happens when the sunroof is pulled back and not popped out. Matter of fact, he can't pop it out because it doesn't go forward enough.

sun roof problem

i am having a similar problem. one of the arms that tilt the sunroof is jammed. i took my sun roof apart to try and free the arm up. i spent three hours and had no luck. i took it nissan they wanted to charge me 1400 bucks for a new track assembly.

i said they must be out of there mind. i emailed one guy on the board that had the same problem. he bought the parts he needed from a salvaged maxima. he told me the parts were about 600$ and had it installed for 150$. this is a no win situation the parts are going to be expensive no matter what . so if you want to save money you can shop around for th the patrs you need and install it yourself. thats what ill do.

later.
lenny.

Re: sun roof problem

If you live in eastern PA, email me privately, and I'll give you the number for a guy who does A LOT of sunroof work for us and dealers. I work at an auto accessory shop, and we refer these type jobs to him.

I believe in the owners manual it outlines a procedure to manually close the sunroof with the supplied allen wrench if it helps at all......

Sorry dude, we live in Boston. When I get time. I'm going to look at my alldatadyi account and see if there are any exploded pics of the sunroof.
