My buddies got a 5spd 2001 with a differnt BOV on it and a turbo tuner...At the end of the week he's gettin a downpipe and an exhaust.. how fast will he really be ?? He braggs on how hes gonna be running 12s, I cant amagine that...I want to race him but he wants to race after his exhaust system to make his turbo breath better, will I even have a chance ?? ..any feedback is appreciated

He will most likely be in the high 13s. Maybe low 14s if he is a poor shifter. And no you don't have a chance.

he will probably be around a 14.2 or so, i highly doubt 13's but regaurdless he will kill you. if you race him do it from a stop because you have more torque and his turbo wont start working hard til after that.

That car is 150 hp stock. If he turns up the boost too much, that car may not be around that much longer. It should be a good race.

 

Its called a turbo TIMER, not tuner. All a turbo timer does is allow the car to run after the ignition is switched off so that he doesn't coke the oil in his turbo. It does nothing to increase performance. A BOV likewise will not give ANY power. Neither of those things will make his car any faster. As it stands, his car is no faster than a stock 1.8T.

The downpipe will increase performance slightly, as will the ehxuast. He will give you a run. 14.2 for the car, as you have described it, is dreaming. You made no mention of it being chipped. If it is chipped, then yes high 13s or low 14s are possible, but not without a chip. I think most people who posted on this thread missed that he doesn't even have a chip.

It should be a good race, if he were chipped you'd be screwed, but without the chip hes likely only making 15 more HP than stock.
