i have a 98 SE five speed and it doens't seem to be as fast as everyone says that these cars are. i love the car already since i just got it last month. are the 98's much slower than the other max's. maybe it needs a tune up. or how bout some mods?? oh well. it just seems to me that the low end is very week (1000 to 3000 rpm) after that though the high end is very nice. any suggestions or comments.

you max is probably fine =)
most of us here drive like maniacs
some of us think their max's are faster than they
really are too!
pop on a few mods and find out
but as for me... my max is slow like yours =)

maybe i drive like a girl

not to say that girls can't drive or anything but i know that i don't really beat on my car at all. i don't take first gear past 4k rpm usually. so i guess in order to be fast you have to drive that sheit like a madman. maybe ill get some mods and then my driving habits will change. Slow down people!!!

And Im out!!

My 99 SE 5 speed was the same way. You hit about 3000 and it's like the vtec kicked in (but there aint no Vtec). I also shift around 3000 around town but when I get on the highway I go WOT 2nd and third till redline about 100 and clutch in for a second and put her in 5th. You do need to keep the revs up over 3000 rpm, preferably 4000 rpm if you anticipate playing with traffic. It's like a different car at those rpms.

I left the line normally the other day against an Aurora and we were dead even up to 40 mph. At the next light, I got the jump on him but had to slow b/c of traffic. We got up to 80 in a 35 zone (I was in third) pulled next to thim, he nailed it and so did I, it was bye bye to him and I pulled in fornt and put on my hazards. Really pissed him off. DOn't worry, traffic on this street should be 55 (and usually is) anways.

I have a 97 maxima SE and it's pretty quick. I use to have a 5.0 mustang gt w/ all kinds of mods. Needless to say, my maxima is no match for that, but it can definatly hold it's own. My friend still has his old 305 v-8 iroc-z camaro and my maxima can run neck to neck or take it down. I can't take the turns i use to take, but it's much more coforable.
The only problem i have is in the rain. I always skid in 1st gear and i can't take a turn remotely fast or it will slide. My tires are decent.....does anyone else have this problem?

Altitude plays a very big role in the performace of your car. You're not located in Colorado or somewhere like that are you?

manual and feel slow?

=]
hehehe...well..what was your daily driver....don't tell me something fast..cause that will just make the max slow...

I think the max is quite fast of the line..
Heck my auto shifts at 3.5 k on the 1st and 2.5 k on the 2nd...and 2.5 k on the the 3d...
daily normal stop light...and all them cars are usually behind me...
I feel like it goes normal speed..but then looking at how others accel...maybe not...
then again..this is probably why I don't get good mileage at all...sigh...
ahahahaha....mods? I dun have any worthy one...
try shifting at higher RPM, try different combo till you feel the nice accel and not so high RPM.
Enjoy the ride...
