FSTB install trouble

i got the new Courtesy FSTB for my '99 Maxima. its the new design with circular end-plates (its not in the shape of a C) and the bar itself is flat instead of the earlier tube shape. it fits on perfect, however there is a small problem with the strut nuts. the strut nuts are 22mm and have a semi-circular crown/cap like thing on top of them. this crappy thing interferes with the nuts on the FSTB that connect it to the end-plates. if only the FSTB or the strut nuts were place about 3-4mm away...everything would fit perfectly.

do you guys have any suggestions?

the strut nuts are 10mm on the inside, so i tried to get two from Home Depot, but it seems that the strut nuts are 10mm fine thread and Home Depot does not carry those anybody know where i can get those...the Nissan stealership does not have them either !

the last option for me is to use a dremel and shave off a portion of the strut nuts till they don't interfere with the end-plate nuts.

why does the '99 always have to be ever-so slightly different and cause all these headaches

If you're still trying to get smaller nuts get nuts from the dealership for a 95-96 Maxima. I believe only the '99s have the crown, but all 4th gens have the same strut bolts so the nuts will fit. Other than that you could call Courtesy and make sure the bar fits a '99. I have the Round tube FSTB and had no problems with it.

Hey buddy, I had the same problem with my 99 and the courtesy bar. I even contacted courtesy about it and they said that its the first that they heard of this problem.
Just go to pep boys and get some Hex Nuts. They fit well and I haven't had any problems with them thus far. You won't be able to use the torque wrench on those though.
Let me know if you have any additional problems.

If you get really stuck, Stillen has them. They send two with each strut brace for people like us with 99's with acorn-style nuts. I am sure they could sell you a couple, for a price.
