Help! Speedometer won't work!!!

I was driving home and I looked down and noticed that my speedometer wasn't working, I sped up really fast and the speedometer began working once past 60mph, once I slowed down it stopped working again... what's wrong with it and how do I go about finding out whats wrong with it and fixing it =( ????
