maxima is about class and sport, not just speed its quick, but its not a sports car, thoese are, and those wont make it passed 50k miles ,remember that. I think u will lose in a race, but u have the superior car.

That wasn't the question though From your description the 5.8L sounds like a LT1 to me, and if so he'll beat you. I believe the older IROCs weighed quite a bit though.

the IROC Z28's came in with two engine options...305 and 350. the 305's would be a close race in my opinion. the 350 came with the option of chevy's tune port injection...either way if it has a 350 with or without the tuneport i think he will dust you. 5-speed could be close...but as you stated you are auto.

I think that you will beat him if he is stock and u have a 5 Speed + intake and full exhaust. But u have a auto and it would be a big hassle to convert to a 5 speed. So the easiest way to whoop his *** would be to spend the 600-700 bucks and get NOS.

I don't think you will beat him simply because of your auto tranny. I have a 5-spd 1995 SE and I am running 15.1 at the track with no traction. If I get a race off the roll (where traction isn't an issue) I would be more like a 14.8 - 14.9 sec 1/4 mile car. I did race one of those off the roll (5mph or so) and we tied. I am bone stock.

So for you to be running 14.8 - 15.1 in the 1/4 mile, do what mods you have to do to get there and you will have a chance.

IROC = Italian Retard Out Cruising
Actually its International Race Of Champions, but anyway I raced an IROC a few weeks ago in Tampa and destroyed him several times in a row racing from light to light, not sure which engine it was.

Hey,

Ive been a lurker on the org for a long long time. This is my first post on here, and I wanted to comment on this post. I had a 98 SE 5 speed (which to this day, I regret getting rid of) and I currently have an 86 IROC, 305 TPI. The Max was stock, and the IROC has an exhaust, chip, and some minor intake stuff done to it.
I owned both cars at the same time and in my opinion, it would be damn close. It would probably come down to sdrivers skills. My mom had a 99 se automatic (lease just went back last month)and once again, in my opinion, in its stock form, wouldnot be able to compete with the IROC.
Unfortunatley, I had to get out of my lease early due to me getting a company car with my job. I had just gotten married, and my wife owned an accord. We both wanted to keep the maxima, but she just couldnt figure out how to drive a 5 speed for squat. Worst part is that she is a total "car person". At the same time, we just purchased our first house, so any extra money was very helpful. The car was loaded...Black/Black leather/bose, roof, heated seats. Im a clean freak, and the car showed it! My buddy was going to buy it out, but at the end he had a change of heart and instead of returning it, he sold it for the buyout. So if any of you guys out there purchased a black se 5speed in july 2001 with 36k? you might have my old baby
Anyway, you live you learn.

I've raced one of those peice camaro's before..it was an RS+ or something like that..with the 305 I think. Anyways the guy had a 5-speed with exhaust/intake and we raced 3 times from a 30+ roll. Everytime I gave him the headstart, then mushed down the peddle, and walked him each time, and I am autotragic with I/E.

RS camaros are 3.1 or 3.8L V6s. Of course you walked him

A friend of mine has a '88 Z28 w/ a 305, auto w/shift kit, and exhaust. I was dead even with him before I had a y-pipe.

An auto max probably couldnt keep up with no mods unless the z28 is really beat...which most are.

like stated before, if it is a 305 you should beat him. those things are heavy and not all that quick, but it will be a close race. although if he is a 350 then he will murder you.

What kind of rims do you have and also what did you do to get dual exhaust? Your car looks damn good.

They're 17x8 Konig Caffeines, 20 pounds a peice, $650 for the set brand new locally, you could find em cheaper online.

The duals are totally custom. There is a recent thread in the General Forums where I describe my setup. Also search the .org there have been tons of threads about duals. I gaurentee you'll find your answer but if you don't then PM/email me.
