Is that what you're using for your 100shot, the coppers? I was thinking of switching to see if I'd notice a difference. I'm usin NGK Iridiums 2steps colder

I really don't think that the problem with the Bosch is a degredation issue. The NGK platinum is required because of a conductivity issue....it allows more electricity to pass through it resulting in a stronger spark, for longer periods. I think that your car will feel okay with non NGK's, but for efficiency and longevity the NGK's are the way to go. I just did mine, got them for $8 each, and they are great. Expensive at first, but then you just forget about them!
The conductivity issue was discussed HEAVILY in another thread a while back, that sold me immediately. That thread should be a sticky or in the FAQ. Search for it!

I have always used ngk platinum plugs in my car until about a month ago. I put in splitfire plugs that I got cheap at k mart closing sale. So far, so good. I got improved mileage and power, I will have to wait and see how they age.

ONLY use NGKs - Platinum or Copper IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH. I know because I have used both in the Minima. I would rather save the $45 and get something else.
Part Number for the copper plugs, as it's hard to convince a dealer to let you use them:
Spark Plug Number: 22401-50Y05
NGK V-Power Copper BKR5E-11
Cost: about $8 to $9 for 6 from Courtesy, Ultimate Z, nissanparts.cc, etc.

Re: Re: Re: Re: spark plugs
Damn, I didn't know that. I just checked my plugs today and was a little worried because of the color of the tip. The entire tip is reddish orange. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. My instincts tell me I might be running too hot, what do you think?

The reason for the copper is the spark is fatter and you are taking a chance of the flame blowing out running spray with platinum and iridium. That is the same reason you gap it closer. I am running 2 steps colder coppers at .035 gap.

to the DENSO Iridiums is that they have an alloy side electrode (the new NGK Hybrid Iridium has a platinum side electrode) and Denso recommends that they be replaced every 30,000 miles.

NGK Copper..
if you can't afford it.. then get a buss pass
if you are lazy and don't feel like changing them every 30k miles.. then get plat.. but the copper has a better spark.. and that makes you faster i think

Basch Platinum 4's cost around $8 or so. I've never had a problem, kept the first Bosch set for 50k and replaced with the same. Car runs smooth. In addition, I got 31mpg on my last tank of gas (filled up this morning) .
I don't think you can go wrong with either Bosch or NGK. Never tried anything else.

ok are the NGK coppers pregapped? I'm going to get a set this week. I have intake, ypipe and nos 70 shot. I dont want to be getting colder plugs, as they seem to hurt off the bottle performance.
I'm gonna get the coppers and will be changing them every 30k, because now armed with sprint's write up, I am not afraid of changing the spark plugs anymore.
Should I be getting ONE step colder coppers? And what gap are you NOS'ed guys using? Any feedbacks and recommendations greatly appreciated.

Sprint alluded to them not being gapped in the past, so I'm only passing along my experience.

.. i ran 100 shot on stock heat range once i killed dmbmaxima all the way to NJ and then when i tried to drag.. my car was hesitating.. in RPM range from 4500 to 5500 rpms the car would hesitate like crazy.. later on i checked my plugs and i had burned off the electrode on one of my plugs.. changed them and hesitation went away..
i am running 1 step colder now.. BKR6E @ 35 mm gap

Even though they are supposed to be pre gapped I always take a few minutes to check them myself. The spark plug gauge is only about a $1.00 and you know the gap is correct!
