CA BIG need of P0430 precat
I don't know if this will help you but it just might. I used to have a persistant problem with my 2K SE. I would always get a SES light. I don't remember the actual codes but were always about the pre-cats or ignition coils. I remember reading a post by someone here at the .org about fuel. I decided to exclusively use 91 Shell V-Power gas and the SES light went away on it's on. This was about 6 months ago. I've never changed this habit and my max just pasedt it's CA smog check 2 weeks ago. No more light, or coils and cats to buy. My 2 cents.
Yeah I did use it once or twice gone but it comes back. Just not the smart thing to do in the long run because it would be the same thing as buying a used one that works if someone had one to sell. My mom is the one who usually drives it and they don't like putting gas thats "expensive" and that light comes on every week or so and my dad usually resets it.
That does sound like a good idea but just not for who is driving it and paying for the gas.

It sucks that you have visual inspection but it should pass the.sniffer test no problem even with just the main cat. You can find a few used OEM y pipes on the classifieds... Unless you have precats in the y AND headers. If its in the headers I suggest like someone else already did: punch out the cat material inside. It'll still pass the sniffer test, you'll get some hp and it'll pass the visual since they're not gonna take it apart to make sure there's catalytic converteraterial inside.
Plus what would be the point of getting ur precats if you're still gonna use 87? It'll knock at one point or another and the ses light will go on for a coil or knock sensor and.maybe somethin else too. So you wouldn't pass inspection with ses light either way right? If that's true then I'll be major face palming lol
You obviously have never been through California emissions. Just having the main cat in good working order will not lead to a pass of the sniff test. The requirements are stiffer every year with lower tolerances.
I have a main cat, and two functioning pre-cats in my 2k Max and still barely passed. My Maxima doesn't knock and is well maintained.
As far as gas octane is concerned there is a VERY marginal, to little difference between running 87 to 91 in regards to NOX emissions. I found this out two years ago when I failed emissions testing the first go around and tried with 91 and failed again. I ultimately had to replace my main cat and one pre-cat to get it to pass that time.

Omg are you serious? It requires 91 from the factory. This isn't a phone plan where you can.love without call display or.voicemail... If you don't want knocking and.lower nox emissions than use 91. I can't believe some people are that retarded. Yes you can get away with it sometimes but the car won't like it when its got a higher load to.pull... Either more throttle, ppl in the car, grade of the road or combination of all of them. If you can't afford to put 91 in this car then maybe you should Get yourself a different car that would cost as.much on regular up keep.
