assuming you have the gxe guages, the bulbs are soldered into the circuit board. theyre really small and dont look replaceable. i should know, ive tried.

the only bulbs u would be able to change would probably be the bulbs for the tach, speedo, fuel and temp.

so since the GXE and GLE guages are the same...im assuming the bulbs are the same...small and soldered to the circuit board? all im interested in changing is the speedo, tach, fuel, and the other guage cluster bulbs, to like i dunno...blue maybe...i dont know...i would have to try it to see what i liked...but can it be done?

All i want to change are the lights for the speedometer, RPM guage, gas guage and the temp guage. IS THIS POSSIBLE ON A GXE AND WHAT KINDOF BULBS DO I NEED?

OK HERE GOES:

As per my research on this subject i have found the following the bulbs used in the 5th gen clusters<SE> are smaller than 194 i am not quite sure of the size but i think its 168 i have found 1 place that has LEDs this size and i am in the process of ordering them now.

please refer to the pics below fo more info: please be aware that this is for a 2000 SE cluster others may be different

THE BULB ON THE RIGHT IS A 194-- THE BULB ON THE LEFT IS THE ONE IN OUR CLUSTERS

if anyone has any further input on these bulbs please clear this up for me!!

i wish i knew. i've been trying to figure this out forever. i was thinking instead of changing it to LEDs, just find brighter bulbs in that size... if that's even locatable at your local auto store... yes, do that and lightly coat the bulbs with heat-resistant blue paint. the only drawback is there will be slight inconsistencies in the bulb color (unless you're really careful).

I was actually thinking of sticking blue LEDs in the sockets in place of the small bulbs, but then you might run into voltage problems (and resistors will not fit in there).

Another solution (ghetto) is if you notice, not all of the bulbs are the same brightness. There's brown light sockets (like you pulled out) and there are black ones, i believe. One of them are for your tach, etc, and the other is for your warning displays. The warning displays are the brighter bulbs. Thus, you can swap them with each other. Easy mod, just need a little bit of your time to gouge the cluster out.

hope this helps. let me know if there are any other ideas.

i bought them from ebay for 177.00. the only thing is that when u swap out the gauges u also have to swap out the circuit boards because the circuit board holds the mileage of the car.

I think I've seen bulbs like that labeled as "W5W" bulbs. But from the pics, I always assumed that it was a 194 bulb (just another name for it though). I've never seen them compared like that, so this is the first time I've really gotten to think about it.
