HLSD owners a few questions....

I'm interested to know how you guys feel about the HLSD on your 2002 Maxima 6spds? I recently read a review in Car&Driver about the CL-S 6spd with its HLSD and they were just going on and on about how well it handled....even calling it the best FWD car bar none. If thats the case, this is an option I'd like to add. So my question is, how does this option affect the handling of your car. I know how it works from a mechanical stand point, but want some owner feedback please.

I'm not trying to rub it in or anything. But truth is, it'll never handle as good as your (ex)Prelude.

Oh yeah, that much is certain , but I would like to make sure that the power that I do have is most effectively put to the ground. When I autocrossed the Maxima, the inside front tire would just liquify itself on tight corners.

While I can't comment from personal experience since I don't take my car to the track and won't drive it that hard on the highway I have read numerous reviews of the Maxima with the HLSD and the situation you describe is exactly what the reviewers rave about. No inside tire wheel spin when powering out of a corner. In other, more normal driving situations? I came from a '91 Max 5 speed w/no LSD to the '02 6 speed w/HLSD. I can apply way more power at launch with this car than I could with the '91 and have very little wheel spin. On wet roads the HLSD makes the car feel like the roads are dry. If you're about to buy a 6 speed I would recommend getting the HLSD. Even if you don't believe me you can't go wrong on a $399 option.

Enjoy the ride!

The car with the right tire pressure has no traction problems. I see you live in AL so snow is not a problem if you are a street racer and are going to take it seriously maybe you could cut your 60' times. I have had every generation Max and if I were you I would save your $. Front wheel drives are 60' challanged.
I have HLSD.

Kinda off topic, but was your prelude an SH? How does an HLSD compare to Honda's ATTS?

Yes, the Type SH with ATTS is very similar to HLSD, with one exception. ATTS is always active. So even if you are gently turning into a parking lot the computer diverts anywhere from 0.01 to 20% more torque, depending on speed, to the outside front wheel. HLSD, only works when the inside wheels is starting to lose traction.
