Well, when I bought my Maxima - used, but from a Nissan dealer - I asked the guy what octane - he tells me 87. So I put in 87 octane for the first few tank fulls, and the car did not like it at all - poor response and sounded like the lifters were sticking... ughh... It didn't take me long to realize how foolish I was for listening to him - should have known better...

Not sure which would have been more appropriate:

Or

Nissan sales fool

By the way, I've stayed away from them ever since.... I don't think I want them anywhere near my car...

89 octane

I've only used 89 octane in my car, 2k2 Max. It hasn't knocked/pinged and I get great mileage. Why use anything more?

Exactly what does that mean?

Also notice the computer mpg is exactly 3mpg off.

oh wow...the most i've over gotten out was 510 miles on 17.5 gallons..i was driving to Grand Canyon and this was when i had about 10,000 miles on my car. only mods that time was my intake, 17 inch wheels and eibach springs..

Yes- I also tried 89 octane on a 2k2 maxima which was a rental while mine was in the shop. It ran just fine and got the same gas mileage as mine. Haven't tried 89 in mine yet because of everything people have been saying.

yea i dunno i run 93 octane in my 2k2. sh*t i know a guy who puts ULTRA 94 octane in his 1993 dodge caravan. All depends on what U think the car needs, cuz afterall, it is YOUR car.
