i do look at other maxima's but not what they put in the tank. i'm not saying its wrong what you did, just that ive never done it. i guess im not a very observant person. you get an A+.

Well, when I bought my Maxima - used, but from a Nissan dealer - I asked the guy what octane - he tells me 87. So I put in 87 octane for the first few tank fulls, and the car did not like it at all - poor response and sounded like the lifters were sticking... ughh... It didn't take me long to realize how foolish I was for listening to him - should have known better...

89 octane
I've only used 89 octane in my car, 2k2 Max. It hasn't knocked/pinged and I get great mileage. Why use anything more?

Re: Re: 89 octane
Exactly what does that mean?
Here's my latest tank... 439 miles on 17 gallons (25.5mpg)... highway and city. Not much racing but a few (maybe 2 or 3) hard starts. Always 89 octane.
Also notice the computer mpg is exactly 3mpg off.

Yes- I also tried 89 octane on a 2k2 maxima which was a rental while mine was in the shop. It ran just fine and got the same gas mileage as mine. Haven't tried 89 in mine yet because of everything people have been saying.
