Sad but true...

Last year I traded my 95 maxima for a new Accord coupe. I regretted that decision for a long time. My old maximum was a better car in every way except for looks in my opinion. I just recently traded that crap Accord for a 2000 I30t. I am so happy with the I30. I still can’t believe the difference in ride quality and performance between the two cars.

Anyways, my questions are what mods are available for the I30 and where can I get a Double din dash kit to get rid of the horrible sounding Bose setup. Thanks in advance for all your help.

P.S.
I desperately want clear buper lights for the I30.

Those coupes look really nice. IMHO they look quite a bit better then most maxima's stock. But once you bring in the aftermarket that vanishes.

My sister owns a '95 GXE and raced her friends 00 Accord V6 coupe on many occasions. From stops, highway, city...everytime the Max would put a coupe car lengths on the accord and walk it off the line. How did your accord stack up performance wise against your old max? Who had more torqueiness off the line?

I think the 2000+ i30 SE's are some of the sexiest cars ever. They are alot better looking stock then the Maxima's IMO, and have the touch of infiniti for classiness. The i30's and Maxima's have the same chassis and engine so any mod for the 2000+ Max will fit on your i30. If I were you i'd get some 19's or 20's, tint, and just leave it at that. The i30's were made for a quiet comphy ride, so adding things like downpipes, mid pipes, intakes, ect. will destroy everything the car was made to be, but again it's your choice.

Double dins are easy to find. As a guide, try www.crutchfield.com Their prices are too high, but you can use the application guide to see what fits your car and buy it somewhere else. I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P730 single headunit and kept the bose system. I actually think it sounds great, those dual 6 1/2 woofers in the back really pump the bass! People actually think I have a system.

Good luck,

-Craig

Thank you all for the input.

Oddly enough, one of the reasons I decided to trade my old Max for an Accord was because I thought there would be a whole bunch of aftermarket part available. I had a V6 coupe and found that the parts were scarce and pretty expensive. This is in comparison to the V4 Accord.

My old Maxima felt like it had a noticeable difference in torque over that of my Accord. Again, I was thinking I would compensate for less torque by getting aftermarket mods. This proved to be expensive. I started to dislike the Accord from then on, and I figured why spend more money on a car I don’t like anymore. In my opinion, the Maxima was definitely a better car.

For now, I am very happy with the way the 17” rims look on the car. My Accord had 16” rims with 215/60/16 tires. The first time I drove the I30, I noticed the difference in handling and how much of a difference 225/50/17 tires made. The first thing I will mod is definitely the suspension and tint. My buddy’s gf works at an Infiniti dealer and she is able to get me a discount on tint. She says $160.00 for 35% all the way around. I think it a good deal.

I completely agree that doing too many modifications will ruin what the I30 was meant to be. As for the stereo, thanks for the advice. I will look into it as I am anxious to replace the Bose with an eclipse unit. I’m just not sure what the dash will look like without the factory trim.

As far as the trim goes, you can order the GXE AC Vent + pocket from your Nissan (parts) dealership. Otherwise you can get the Metra or Scosche kit from almost any mobile audio store. They're not an exact match but it's a lot better than most generic black trims that look just totally out of place.

As far as DDIN goes, if you can afford it. Eclipse has a 2DIN screen set-up. I forgot the Model # but it's literally a 2DIN sized screen that functions as a CD Player/DVD/Control unit. None of those flip-out screens you normally see.

Now with regards to your tint. $160 ain't much of a discount. Truth is you could probably find something better for the same or lower price elsewhere than at the dealership. I have a 35/32/20 platinum tint set-up - $180 tax included.
