Why is it so satisfying to put punks in their place?
Why is it so satisfying to put punks in their place?
Why do I derive so much pleasure from putting these little punk-@ss kids in their place? Its like rubbing my eyes really hard. It feels good and I don't know why.
A couple of weeks ago, the wife and I had to go into town so we left the 6-spd at home and grabbed the 2K 5-spd. At some point I end up at a light sitting at a light next to some "kid" (early 20's) in a previous gen Cavalier Z24. This kid is dressed up like he just left the taping of a rap video, hat on backwards, glasses, etc... Really Vanilla Ice.
This Cav had the works, stickers, altezzas, rims, big *** spoiler, etc. The only thing louder than his coffee-can exhaust was the rap lyrics booming from his car.
So here we are, lined up, and I just know he's going to punch it, and I know he's going to lose, but I cannot resist. Light turns green, he spins the tires a little bit, I spin my tires alot, and its on. By the end of second it was over, and part way into third he probably couldn't even read my license plate anymore.
We end up side by side and the next light, my wife is laughing her head off, the light turns green, and he just sits there! He waited until I started going before slowly accelerating. Stayed behind me the rest of the way until we had to turn.

Re: Why is it so satisfying to put punks in their place?
I had the similar situation.
Wife and I were cruising behind a van. Modded 325 BMW coupe(95-98) passes me by and everyone (2 boys on front and 2 girls on back) gave me "look"
. BMW was lowered, had aftermarket exhaust and rims.
Anyway, my wife goes: "kids are looking at you funny". I couldn't resist and pilled behind him. On the next light Bemmer ended up in the first lane and I'm behind him. Green light comes on and he punched it. I followed. I saw an opening and made a move. When I was passing him I kind of slowed down, turned my head and gave them a smile. Then punched it and by the 5000 rpm in 3rd I was 2 cars a head. I guess, he was slowing down.
I loved it. I could hear girls laughing at the driver in my head.

Don't feel bad. I do the same thing.
I wasted a kid in a '87-'93 5.0 GT about three weeks ago. My girlfriend was with me and this kid revved up at me at a light. I revved back and his passenger started laughing. That's peesesd me off so when the light went green we took off. I took him by about three lengths to 60 MPH and I let off because it was over. I slowed down to try to see the look on his face (and his passenger's) but they turned off before they got next to me. My girlfriend was laughing as we passed them and kept laughing for about 5 minutes afterward. She just kept asking me, "Did he really try? That was pathetic!".

Well, as a previous owner of a 5.0 GT (my first car was a white 1987 GT), I can tell you that a lot of them are completely dogged out and slow as malassus in January by now. I've seen some running in the high 15's/low 16's at the local track. Any auto '02 will spank that.
However, I do agree with you on the mods and the 5.0's response to them. It responds a lot better to mods than most cars. A 5.0 with all the bolt-ons with stock heads should run in the mid-low 13's with a good driver. With heads, low 12's should be easy depending on the heads. Throw a Vortech or nitrous into the mix at that point and you've got a recipe for a ten second street car.
The kid I raced had exhaust but I would think that's about it. He also looked young and probably had no idea how to drive.
If you click on the link to my homepage, you'll see my '98 Cobra and the info on that. There should also be a link to my '96 Thunderbird I had prior to that.

Man, I can't even imagine if I had a girlfriend/wife who *****ed about racing. Mine gets mad if I go to the track without her!
releasedtruth, what was your name over on TCCoA? I sold the chicken last summer to Seabass and then bought a '98 Cobra (which I still have, but I'm trying to sell). The Cobra laid down 290 RWHP and 285 RWTQ in its prime with all the mods. Many an LS1 were bitten by that Snake...I'm gonna miss it.

Now you guys want to make me share my stories . . .
For some reason, I get races when my wife is in the car.
Last weekend - Friday night. I pull up to light headed toward the interstate. New eclipse GT next to me. I do nothing but he guns it and spins off the light. So, naturally I respond. Caught him and had about a car by 70. He left me alone through a couple of lights but then as we approach a 90 degree right turn that merges to a one lane on-ramp to the interstate, he guns it. I knew what he was doing - trying to take me on the turn. So, I'm in the outside lane and I downshifted and punched it. Immediately began to pull on him. Then braked hard into the 90 degree turn and held my line. He was on the inside and close coming around the corner but had to back off once we straightened out because he knew he couldn't get me before the merge. Wife says "your tires are great!" (Pilot Sports) Double Victory!
Last weekend - Saturday night. Same stretch of road except this time after I've gotten onto the interstate - 2 lanes at this point. I basically blow by a guy in a G20. He decides he wants to race and starts closing on my rear (which I guard cautiously!) and I downshift into 3rd around 70 and start to pull. Surprisingly, I don't just cream him but I just walk away. (I know what you are thinking but my wife only weighs 120). But I am walking away from him. Unfortunately for him we are hitting around 100 as we approach a three lane slow S. This is a challenging S because the middle of the S is on a hill with one side going up and the other going down. I've seen many lose/nearly lose control.
I hit the upside of the S fast in the far right and move through all three lanes to the far left. He tries to follow. As I look up in my rearview, I see him get squirrely and sway side to side. He backs off to keep control. Wife says "my car could never do that!" (Pilot Sports) Victory!

5.0
I had a great run with a 5.0 the other day. It was a total redneck model...it had the racing stickers all over it, and it looked like he had a aftermarket exhaust, but I couldn't tell because of all the smoke coming out the tailpipes. Anyways, we got to a light and it was on, I beat him off the line and I was pulling on him just a tiny bit...by the time it was time to shift to 3rd I had just a nose on him, and then I missed the @$#^#%^$#^**%#%$@&*$#@#^&*& shift!! I've never missed a shift in a race before. It ****ed me off sooo bad. I would have had him licked too because the VQ top end horsies were taking over. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for that one.
