Bose Subwoofer Replacement

Considering the replacement the Bose factory subwoofer with something of better quality in order to clean up some of the distortion at higher volumes.

Does this make sense, and if so what are some recommended speakers that can be swapped with the existing subwoofer?

yup...the stock sub rattles too much. howeverm if u keep the sub there...regardless what sub u put in, its going to rattle. I would suggest to have a box instead of using the stock sub mount....

I'm with this guy. I too would like to replace the sub but I don't want a box in the trunk-those days of huge woofer boxes are over. I don't mind sacrificing a little volume for less weight and more trunk space. Call me old, but I think if you put a box in the trunk you're kinda just wasting space for when you really need it.

It may be possible to put a small (8-inch) enclosed sub in the same space as the factory sub. I'm just not sure the deck would support the weight. The other question is: does the current system have enough power to run a larger subwoofer, or will you have to add an amplifier into the mix?

Yes, someone definately had it done, they replced it with a crossfire amp and had a small box custom made to enclose it. The set up harly took any space.
