Jack points on 2002

I just bought a 2 ton alligator jack, so I can lift the 2002 onto some jack stands for various work.

Does anyone have the safe lift point on the centerline (for lifting all of the front, or rear) and on the midline (for lifting one side)

Many thanks,
SkyDaver, yr frndly nghbrhd newbie.

Check your manual. I recall seeing it there.

The only thing I found in the owners manual is the spots where you use the scissor jack that comes with the car.

I'm looking for the spots where I can lift the entire front or back end, or either side, lifting both wheels off the ground with one jack.

I think I may have found the spot in the front. Right on the centerline, just behind the plastic of the bumper, there is a metal projection with a flat surface. It seems to be in the right place, and strong enough.

I've been planning to get a service manual ... that should have this info.

In the rear I used the axle beam before I put on the Addco sway bar. You don't have to be precisely in the center, just approximately as most of the mass (engine and tranny) is up in the front of the tripod formed with the front tires and jack.

Be sure to use a jack cradle pad... firm rubber pad that fits in the cradle of the jack. You can buy them, or cut one out of an old tire or make one from a block of wood (which is what I did). It'll prevent scratching the finish, leading to rust.

Also, your jack's cradle has to span the width of the beam, but most do. Even the small 2 1/2 ton floor jack I got was OK for that.

Haven't found a point in the front, though.

Ever considered a set of ramps? I got one on sale from KMart for $17 a pair. Heavy-duty stuff and is well worth it.

According to page GI46 in the ESM, there are 6 jackpoints - the 4 as previously mentioned (on the sides, under the rear beam, and the last one is in the front under the cross member. It does not speak of one in the center of the side of the car.

For the front, look under it and you'll see a little nub sticking down. That's to jack the whole front up. You can use the frame rails to jack up each side too.

I do have a set of nice ramps, and they work fine for the things they are good for.

However, they don't help much if you need to take the wheels off.

If you want to put the car onto jack stands, ramps don't help.

Looks like I've found the front center spot, and someone else mentioned using the beam axle for rear center, so I'll be able to lift one end or another.

Given that the scissor jack uses the frame rail, and straddles that 'flange', I'll be that if I make a wooden block to go over the flange, I can lift one side using that same rail.

I'll let you know how it turns out ;-)

Thanks very much for the diagrams from the service manuals.

I'm terribly greedy, though ... is there one spot on the side where you can lift the entire side of the car?

On both my 93 and 2000, I used a 3 ton jack on the center beam under the engine to lift the entire front, then lowered the car onto jackstands. I put the jackstands under the inner part of the suspension where the a-arms attach. No problems.

I think if the hydraulic jack has a well-shaped 'cup' you won't damage or crimp the beam.. it's pretty sturdy.
