transmission messed up before 500 miles?
that's right - I think my transmission is messed up, and I havent hit the 500 marker yet...but then again, it could just be all in my head~ 2k2/auto trans, I try to accelerate from 20-45?, the rpms hike up to 3...and i DO NOT step on the gas...even if I slightly tap on it, although it's not accelerating that quickly, it revs up to 2 At least - now I thought that it shouldnt be like this - am i wrong?

Same thing was happening to me when I hit the 6k mile mark. RPM would jump to like 5K and just fall back. When I took it to the dealer for my 7.5k check I forgot to mention the problem but it seem to have stopped.
So I don't know if the dealer did something or it stopped on it's own.
Nice

I don't quite understand what you mean by the statement below but it seems to me your TC is unlocking.

sorry for the abstract words - i was just saying that it's not as if I have a heavy foot and step on the accelerator. I just lightly press on the gas, and the rpms are hitting 3 while I'm going 20-35 mph - is this normal?

i'm sorry for being cryptic
TC = Torque Converter. When cruising the TC locks on 4th gear (Overdrive) and unlocks the moment gas is applied. Depending on how much pressure you put on the pedal and what speed your going it may stay at 4th gear to accelerate or downshift to the necessary gear.
